Are all confirmed 17x9 + 255/40-17 users 2Gb? Seems that way.

I have a 2Ga. Right now I have 5mm spacers in the back but I am not sure if they are needed. A local AZ guy - Phuong (gsxwingz) had that set up on his 2Gb and he told me that the spacers are necessary so I got them with the wheels.

Is this test fit picture 2Ga or 2Gb? The two are simply bolt-up interchangeable?

I ask because I ran 245/45-17 Nitto NT-01 on evoIX 17x8 enkies, and without a spacer they were locked against the upper curve of the arm. With spacers (5mm), they rub under load on the road course. I've since sold them off.

That picture is of my 17x9 +35 on the 2gb spindle. The clearance looks a bit smaller than it really is, but it is still only about 2-3mm. The rears swap over directly. The only difference was the curve is a little 'deeper' on the 2gb. I swapped them over directly with no problems and have been rockin' out ever since!

i got a question. im thinking of buying Enkei RPF1 17X9, 5X114.3 (GOLD). i have a 2ga with a 2gb conversion. i would like if i would have any clearance issues if i wrap them with 235-275mm tires and 45mm offset?

The +45 offset is going to really hurt any wide tire you want to use.

Here's the data when I measured the knuckle clearance between a 2ga and 2gb.

And going from that 8" wide, +35 Evo wheel to your 9", wide +45 RPF1, according to this offset calculator, you'll have 23mm less inner clearance and it'll stick out another 3mm.

so from my understanding there is no real way to change a offset to like 35mm if it came 45mm shipped? could i use spacers to achieve better clearance? i also dont mind if the wheels stick out a little. i forgot to mention that im getting H&R sport springs soon so it will drop that car around 1.7" on the front and 1.4" to the back. if it is going to be a pain in the ass to achieve the clearance then im just going to go with the 17x8 model.

The wheel diameter doesn't really matter much. It’s the tread width and overall tire diameter that determine whether or not the tires will fit. +40mm offset is the sweet spot. It places the tire very near the center of the available space (keeping good suspension geometry). This becomes more and more important as width and/or height is increased over stock tire size. It is assumed that only a reasonable amount of lowering (up to 1.5 inches) will exist.

Its seems for the 2G, if you are going to want to run 17" wheels, the widest you can get there without some work is 245/35/17 (+50mmm offset). That will still give you 6mm of knuckle clearance and 17 mm of fender clearance. Anything less than say 15mm or less of fender clearance will require some type of fender rolling depending on the offset of the wheel.

But if you go with a +40mm offset, the best you can get (without fender mods) is a 225/50/17. Here are some charts with the data I am referring to for 2G's. Will show 16, 17, 18 & 19 inch wheels for fitment.

Orange = Significant deviation from stock tire diameter - Not recommended.
Green = Adequate clearance.
Yellow = 15mm or less fender clearance may require fender flange rolling.
Red = Zero or neagtive clearance.

Will this work with stock suspension? And if I drop 1" with an aftermarket suspension?

Im a noob when it comes to 2G cars and I think this is the most helpful thread I've found about tire/wheel fitment. I dont know what the differences are for a 2GA and a 2GB. Mentioned earlier were knuckles, and swapping on 2GB knuckles. anybody care to explain how this affects wheel/tire fitment? Im looking for pure grip and handling, and so wheel/tire ftment is important.

The 2gb knuckles allow a bit more inside clearance than the 2ga knuckles. I will eventually get a solid number once I get mine cleaned up, prepped, and swapped on, but it won't be for a little while.

The curved part of the spindle/knuckle that curves up to the upper control arm is the only part with clearancing issues. The difference between the 2ga and 2gb ones is about 3mm. I bought my current wheel setup (255/45/17 on 17x9 +35) and after getting a 2ga donor car for my AWD swap realized they just barely hit. I tested them out on my friends 2gb and they fit, but just barely. I swapped the 2gb spindles onto my car and they have been fine. Here is a picture of the test fit.

I hope this pic is before you fixed the spacing issue. I had more room than that on my 18s and the sidewall got owned. Rather run a spacer than chance that tire getting owned on a curve. Tires stretch while moving a 3000 lb car.

They stick out about 1/2" - 3/4".
Only 2gb rear knuckles will allow that wide of a tire w/+35mm offset.

Anything less will push the wheel/tire out further and your car will look like a skateboard...

What ride height? Spring rates? What suspension/handling mods did you need for that to be effective on track?

That combo had to stick out at least 1.5", so how did you keep from slicing the rear tire in half with the fender? Flares?

17x9 +29 with 235 width AD08 (8.9" center section). They do not stick out and slightly rub with one camber washer in the rear.

Most people are running too wide of a tire IMHO. 235-245 (or an actual 9" wide tire) is basically the limit of stock (rolled) fenders if you're doing road course work. Tires misshape too much on high speed handling (AKA tire deflection) if you're really hitting up grip and you'll rub control arms with the 4mm of clearance to the arms
