I'm looking at getting new wheels and tires for SCCA autoX. I'm interested in 18x8.5, but am not sure what offsets would work. The wheels I'm looking at come in offset +30, +45, +48, which would fit? And are there any tires you guys recommend? Thanks for the help!

I would go with 17's for Auto X. I would also go with some BFG's or something of that nature. Thick & plenty of grip. So 225/45/17 or around there. And I "think" 35 or 40 is the biggest offset we can fit. I'm not positive. There are plenty of guys on here who have pushed the limits with their rims offset wise. They just havent logged in yet :thumb:

Agree with rEclipserGST on the 17s. Lighter wheels and reduced cost of tires...win win.

As for offset, it really depends more on the tire size then rim. Select size (class based), type of tire (different tires run wider than others), then select wheel and offset. As you go wider, suspension and fender rolling will have to be taken into account. Here are some combinations I have run on my car:

17x7-40 - 215/50/17 (Falken ZE-912)
17x8-38 - 235/45/17
17x9-35 - 225/45/17 (Hoosiers) 255/40/17 (NT-01, R888, Potenza RE050A)

I agree on the 17s. But your FWD, a 255/35/18 with 18x9 +35 offset. Or 275/35/18 (this will stick out) will give you better gearing for autox.

Make sure the suspension will keep the fenders from rubbing. Otherwise you'll end up with some interesting handling characteristics. Since your FWD, you might consider playing with staggered sets? Just a thought.

Here is my setup 18x9 35mm ofset 255/35/18 tires, koni yellow and H&R sport springs no fender rolling.

I know it's an old topic, I found it with search. I'm having trouble choosing between 17" and 18" rims... and 255/40R17 and 255/35R18 tires, respectively. Can you post your pics againg, Parin? They seem to have gone down.
