I was gonna upload some of my welds but compared to all of these.....they are absolute garbage. Figures since im using a cheap $175 all electric welder...

Great work guys, Keep it up!

Only reason I like you Glenn is that you show your work. So I give you much respect.
Thanks, the way i see it nothing i do is so secretive i can't share it with other, and i apreciate the feedback. I haven't done much welding lately so i haven't had much to show, but i'll be finishing the center diff here today probably and mayube a few other things to post as well "D

like Gamble said, post it up, we'll gladly help you. There's very few who critiize, but many who will gladly offer advidce on heatsetting, filler feed rate, technique, etc..etc..

Ok, dont poke too much fun...but here are my most recent welds with the type of welder I use.

Welder: Campbell Hausfeld 115v flux core welder. 30-85 amp ALL ELECTRIC

My biggest issue is that I am having to use so much wire for such a small job due to the fact that the slag just "bounces" and spatters off of the metal I am welding. It never seems to want to melt into the metal. Ive tried numerous settings for wire speed and heat along with flux core and solid core wire...but still crappy results. I even make sure the metal is prepped 100% down to bare metal with no oil or grease

Hopefully I can get this straightened out soon, Im planning to attending Lincoln Electric Welding school soon

I use the "cursive E" technique. But it still just bounces off the metal.

Ive tried different settings but the only thing I can select is:

Wire Speed: 1-10
Heat setting: 1-3(15Amp)
Heat Setting: 4 (240)

Its not really a welder I get to fine tune with. And it probably doesnt help Ive never really been taught how to weld haha. I just watch hundreds of videos

Don''t feel bad man. I have a Lincoln 180 with gas MIG and I have made some god awful gnarley looking bubble gum welds with it... Every single time that I have had to do that though was because the weld site wasn't clean enough and got fouled as I was welding. Every time.

My last fouled fiasco was trying to weld exhaust pipe that had previously been JB Welded together... that shit fouled up every single inch of those welds, and I wound up having to make 4 to 5 passes on each joint, just to get them sealed. Total waste of wire and gas... and they look like a blind man with constant siezures did them. :ohdamn:

It's like he said... All it is is practice. I can make some pretty welds, given the right prep work. That took me a while to be able to do consistently. I will say that gas shielding makes a HUGE difference though.

So I dont really expect to many questions but this is an oil cup I made for a bridgeport at work.
Bottom piece was ran on the lathe to get faced and then I fly cut it on the milling machine and then welded the cup part to it. Not too bad for the first real cylindrical aluminum weld I think and yes I was on the clock :thumb:

I wish I could weld like you guys. I only have a cheap Harbor Freight MIG. With whatever wire harbor freight carries.

I can lay a bead like that...but it comes after 2 or 3 that look...well... not like that. LOL

What would you rate the welder? Thats not too bad of a price. My room mates dad offered to let us use his 8000 dollar TIG if we buy him a new set of 600-700 dollar torche kit/cables. He has a very high end Miller and someone stole everything but the welder.

So I really don't wanna spend that much money to borrow something!

I want to learn how to weld. Just so I know how to and I can fix random metal stuff without paying anyone. Any tips? I'm gonna purchase a cheap harbor freight welder to get me started. My friend had a cheap flux core welder from harbor and welded my exhaust on my old car with it so I think it will be ok for little things. Sorry to kinda thread jack

The harbor freight welders are decent little machines. Fair warning though, you will get hooked and sell it and want something better.
The new black ones are supposed to be a lot better than the older blue ones. First thing you do though is throw out the garbage wire that comes with it and go to home depot, lowes or menards and get some better flux wire.

Yeah my friend had a blue one. It was ok but he made it work. He actually impressed me by how good he welded with it. He used to professionally weld for some retail company. But I think that's the way I'm gonna go for a start. I see people welding and I just wanna do it so bad LOL

I just gotta find it. My friend up the road has a pretty nice MIG and he makes custom steel gates for people. nice stuff! All with it and a grinder. One of the video's someone posted here, had a related video that made me think I could pull off building a manifold with it. Because I'm like THIS close to buying a bunch of Stainless Pipe.

Whatever you do Don't Buyt a harbor freight plasma cutter, every single one i've seen or heard about has burned out within the first 3-5 minutes of cutting 16-18gauge sheet metal, returned to have the replacement burned out as well

They do carry a lot of hobart welders, both in hobart and in rebadged versions, only get the MIG if it has the gas hookup in the back, and for their TIG setup, well, if you only want to do 1/8materal at the omost and want t buy extended coverage plan then go ahead, they do wrek but in a year or so the inverter swithing board burtns up

Buying a used millerm, hobart or ESAB is better than buying ANY other brand in new condition (with some high end exceptions but i'm talking in the affordable human money range LOL )

Niceeee.

I just want to make a Stainless Manifold without splatter and jb weld looking beads. If I can pull off using a decent mig with gas hookup, I will order the SS now.
