I got a free welder and I don't know how to set it up. I been looking for the correct wire to use but not sure witch one I should buy. Looking to do small jobs it says to use 0.35 but doesn't say why type I seen alloy aluminum and others any help would be appropriated
  • Brand - JobSmart
  • Duty Cycle - 20% @ 80 A
  • Input Voltage - 120 V
  • Process Type - Flux Core
  • Weld Thickness - 8 Gauge - 3/16 in.
  • Welding Amperage Range - 80-125
  • Manufacturer Part Number - JSMMIG125

flux core is great when youre outside in the wind or just need to fix something quick that doesnt have to be pretty. if you hate it at first, just power through it because once you switch to a gas mig youll love it in comparison

Good for some 1/8" steel
The saying goes where there is slag....drag. So learn to drag your gun instead of push. Some people prefer a push over a pull

Flux welding is smokey. Have a good fan near you

Flux welding is considered a "hot" process. Not good for thin stuff like exhaust work.

I been welding exhoust at the low amp setting and it dose good but any higher it gose right threw it. Lots of splatter all over and yeah weld dont look pretty but get the job done. I been making a ton of money welding small stuff in the neighborhood and friends cars. Saving up for a tig welder but still learing how to weld aluminum on friends welder.

If you have an air compressor go ahead and get a "compact needle scaler" It works wonders cleaning off slag and 'most' splatter around those flux core welds. Nothing wrong with a simple wire brush, just can't remove splatter with it. Since you'll probably be in HF anyways to get said scaler, grab a better ground clamp as well. Looks like this welder has a cheap sheet metal one that has a rather weak spring that won't hold well after a while.
