Which Turbo Should I Get [merged] What Turbo

Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.
 
A friend of mine is running an FP3065 from Forced Performance down here in Texas. Extremely reliable turbo, with a warranty and ball park $1350. He's putting out 550 whp, maybe u could look that up. It's very similar to the GT30 R
 
thanks.. 500-550 whp. i am installing a 2.3l eagle stroker w/ arias pistons and seriously interested in the holset. i have read mavy threads on that turbo nothing bad about it. i know holset has been around as long if not longer than garretts. the holset hx-40 is what i am looking to get. 38mm internally wastegated and bolts on to the mitsubishi o2 housing.
 
with my hp goal would it be wise to upgrade to a external wastegate?

again my hp goal is 500-550whp

Something to think about and im not telling you not to buy from ebay, But my friend had bought a turbo ( e316g ) off ebay and it wasnt a quality turbo hince it blew after only 1500 miles. so make sure your buying from a reputable person. Also make sure its the turbo they are claiming it to be.
 
yea i know about ebay ive been selling and buying things for years thanks for tha warning though. You should never buy anything that doesnt say Garrett right on it or Turbonetics, otherwise that false advertizement and that can make u lots of cash haha. Enough about ebay, ive been hearing a bunch of thing and im not sure what kind of set up i should go with... I want to be able to rev to 9000 and lots of people are saying that a 2.3 wont do it, but i kno if you put a 4g64 crank into a 4g63 without boring it, it becomes a 2.1L, my question is, would a 2.1 spool a big turbo and have good street manners???

In order to make a 2.1L, you have to put a 4g63 crank into a 4g64 block. A 2.1L will be good for about 10k rpm with a built head. The 2.3 stroker really should not be rev'ed much over 8k, if that. If you want to rev to 9k, you might as well stick with the 2.0, and get some dual springs and nice big cams, like BC 280's.
 
Definitely upgrade to an external wastegate. It's better even if your only running 300whp.

If you don't you have to port the wastegate, and do some other mods to make everything work properly.

Go External. Tial makes a good wastegate for a good price.

Also, for the turbo. Take a look at Precisions 6152. You can get that with a misu flange.
 
well i decided to go with the holset with the bullseye power housing. I looked into the GT35 and GT40 turbos and just thought the holset was at e better price (at least for me it is) also bought a 38mm tial wastegate that i will mount on my threadstone manifold the do a custom dump re-circulation pipe so i don't vent into the atmoshpere. will let you all know how it works out.
 
i have both a practiacally new E316G and a brand new garrett 57 trim in my possesion. i have a stock rebuilt 6 bolt and im looking to make 350-400 awhp. which should i use.

keep in mind i can build a tubular mani myself for either turbo.
 
BTW, tubulars aren't nessesary unless you're making over 9,000,000,000hp. Stock cast has been proven to make lots of power, don't waste your time with a tubular.
 
Oh I see. You do know that there's no reason to go full Garret for only 400hp. Plenty of people have done way over that with stock mani's and small turbos. A 57 trim is overkill, IMO. Don't you want to "challenge" yourself by using the bare minimum possible? It's the DSMer way.
