Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

I switched from a small 16g to an Evo 3 16g this past summer. I noticed a significant difference. The E316g hits quite hard and fast and pulls to redline a little harder. Now if I can only work on my traction issues (damn fwd). Current "mod" I'm working on is lots of seat time trying to learn to launch this thing better...I am improving:thumb: I don't think you would regret the evo 16g for a street turbo, just depends on how you will be driving your car.

What are your actual power goals on a pump gas car???

Thats what I was wondering as well. If you will be happy with high 12's in a 1/4 mile and mid 300 whp then thats most likely what you will get out of the Evo III if you buy all the supporting mods. I have the Evo III and personally am quite satisfied with it. I bought it from turbochargers.com about 6 months ago I'd say and they got it to me fast and the only problem I ran into was some oil leaks from the oil line on the turbo. Also consider porting it with a carbide bit/burr if you don't want to see boost creep. Oldman has a thread on here with great detail on how to do it. Most likely if you are running non stock exhaust (ie no cat) you will run into creep issues. If you want to make some real numbers easier on pump gas I would think about getting a 50 trim, but the Evo III is a great turbo which spools close to as fast as the stock T-25 and give you much much more power all the way to redline. Good luck on your decision.

300-350awhp on 93 octane

You can do that with a decent tune on the Evo III. Depends on what you are using the car for also. Is it your daily driver, if so I recommend the Evo III. At 16psi I was getting 21 miles to the gallon so Its nice on the mileage as well, plus It's quick and pulls hard to redline. The only thing that sucks is boost creep which can be fixed by porting or an external wastegate.

yeah I told my brother that but we told me to go with a bigger turbo, because I would get bored of the power quick, he has a EVO III 16g on his Talon, but just hasn't gotten it tuned yet, he is saving up for EMS so if he gets it soon, i'll get to see how the turbo is, he wants a BB50trim bad though.

I find it hard to get tired of the Evo III and I havent even got it close to It's full potential. I guess if you dont push it It could get boring. 50 trim would be nice but I dont know If I'd like the spool up time as much. It's up to you, I dont think youll get tired of the Evo unless you want a crazy fast car but its all up to you. If your bro wants a 50 trim have him sell you his Evo for cheap and he can get a 50 trim and youll have saved some money.

Agreed. The Evo 3 feels faster than it actually is. I think the fast spool and the time it takes from onset of spool to full boost maybe gives it that hard hitting feeling. I've driven cars with 20G and T3/T4 and while undoubtedly faster overall just had a different feel that wasn't as satisfying around town. Haven't experienced 50 trim yet but looking forward to a spin in friend's FP Red drag car.

I just picked up a used big 16g for $160.00....ok ok I also got the radiator, 2g manifold, 1g mas, 2 gauge piller pod w/autometer boost and oil pressure gauges. Not too bad for a nights work in the cold. I dont think the guy knew what he had kind of clueless with dsm's.

Everything gets old after a while if you dont constantly continue improving.
I can do a mod and feel fast all week, then a month later its slow again LOL.
The evo3 is the best bang for the buck turbo for you unless your trying to dump
more money going bigger and ending up having to by a different manifold/ ext. wastegate, and etc. The 18g would be slightly better on top end than the evo3 but the difference is not worth the cost difference, and anything smaller than a ev03 would feel weak in no time. Besides there are some guys with evo3s running high 11s and some ppl making close to or more than 400whp on them, just depends how far you want to push it.

i want to reach 500-550hp right now i have a hahn 20g turbo. I am looking to get a turbonetics T3/T4 60trim turbo. which turbo is better to reach or surpass my hp goal?

Don't know anyone with turbonetics, Holset as said before is a good turbo, but a friend has a gt30r and it is amazing. I'd go with the 35r as well
