Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

Well if your set on making a new manifold go with the 57 trim. The stock mitsu mani has been proven many times with that amount of hp your looking for. The E316G will get you too your goals but it would be close to its max. I would run the 57 trim from the start seeing as you have it already.

57trim FTW... I love my E316G but if I could I would get the 57tim... why? because you have the option for more power later... power is addicting! :)

quick question...I just bought some 780cc Precision Turbo Engineering fuel injectors. with my set up are the PTE 780cc injectors overkill or just right for my hp goal?.

I got DSMLink.. so do you think 780cc are too small for my set up?

780cc sounds too small for 500whp for 80% IDC... 850cc's would be more comfortable

Just bought a 91 AWD TSI automatic car. Car has new engine(stock) The car will be used more as a 1/8 mile race car. I will be driving it to the track too. What turbo do you recommend for 1/8 mile automatic car?

probably a 16g or a 50 trim. I recommend doing Maintenance like crazy and leave a reserve for more maintenance. I regret not doing this and now i have credit card bills to pay. 19 year old broke college student paying bills on top of bills WOO!! Good luck and I hope you choose to take care of hoses, gaskets, trans fluid, and oil change. I think hoses and gaskets are the real trouble makers. Enjoy your car.

Evo 3 16G has very quick spool up, strong midrange and decent top end for your desire. It's also relatively cheap and an easy install on a 1G. All of this is assuming you get the supporting mods for the turbo. There are definitely other options but for the money it's a great turbo.

OK looking at the evo3 16G. what else needs to be addressed? fuel?timing?air intake?exhaust?how much boost can I get out of the evo3 16G? anyone have a 1/8 or 1/4 mile time with a evo3 turbo? thanks

At what boost pressure would my stock drivetrain be insuficient? I thought with an automatic transmission it would be alot less "shock" to my drivetrain. I want to run between 15-20psi boost. I plan on using 660 injectors, 3" exhaust all the way, lose all the emissions stuff, and a fmic. That is what I am planning on starting with. And as you suggested I will do all the maintenance before I upgrade anything. Thanks alot guys

How much are you willing to spend? I know of a lot of people who have done just fine on a 14b just starting out.
I would worry about your automatic trans going out first. I thought were a little more fragile then the manuals. Leave some money in the budget for that.

Questions that have helped me

How much money do you want to spend?

Are you a do it yourself person (you will get the most out of your money, learn a lot from your car, but a lot of head aches).

Don't forget to upgrade your fuel pump!

If you do go 14b make sure you have all the coolant lines and banjo bolts, damn 13g is a pain because of the different lines.

the car has NO turbo on it currently so if I am gonna spend money on a new one I dont want to buy a stock turbo. THinking about the Evo3 16G.

The EVO3Big16G is a good fun all around turbo.

If you want something with a little more room to grow into but still has a quick spool, look at Precisions SCM5031. The M in SCM means that the turbo already has a mitsu housing. So it's a pretty good deal. Slowboyracing.com has pretty good pricing.

I say EVO3.... good, cheap starter turbo. With some Meth Injection and good tunning, you will have some awsome 1/8th times.

The main thing that will help you are the tranny mods. Grab a big tranny cooler, translab shift kit, and the end cluth kit from IPT. You may also want to consider the A/T boost controller. These will be your favorite mods.

Other then that, Evo3, Tranny Mods, Fuel, Tunning, and then your set for a fast car.

Find yourself a cheap 14b turbo somewhere, but if the funds dont matter you should get that evo III . I cant expect that tranny to hold up to such abuse, considering all the mileage it might have. checkout www.ipttrans.com for a rebuild that will hold lots of horsepower in the future man. :thumb: That tranny should help you be more consistent and put the power to the ground .
