Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

just remember, whats big today is small tomorrow, so dont hesistate to get something thats going to give you much pleasure down the road with lots of capability

you get used to the power pretty quick and u want more, i would definately recommend the evo3 over the big if its about the same price or a tad more, its a little bigger then the big16g

im ditching my 20g for something bigger soon

that really helps! ok, lets say I want to get the evo III now. Can someone out there that has this set up tell me what else they have to support the turbo. Thanks alot -matt

I smoked my motor a few weeks ago  , and now im doing the full rebuild, ross pistions, egal rods, clevite bearings, arp everything, b-shaft eliminator, 1 g head and so on. Im lookin to get into the 11's not pushing it, and well in to the 10's pushing it. what turbo/injector size do i need to run to acheve this. I talk to a guy that had a t3/t4 .63 trim, he said he could make enough power with that to get into the 10's. anyone agree? Whats the best turbo to do this, and still be alot of fun on the highway/street, with out waitng a year to spool. o, and one more thing, im trien to achive this with lil, or no weight mods eiather. sounds dumb, but a goals a goal.

Id say FP3065 and 850cc injectors at least. But youll find it takes alot more than just a motor to get into the 10s. You need all the safety equipment, the tranny and other drive line parts to hold up to the power, the tuning, driving experience..ect.

Youre not gonna build your first 10second car over night. Its gonna take time.

i would give the HKS 3037 turbo or the HKS 3037S turbo a try :thumb: . i hear it's got great spool up time and tremendous top end power. but what do i know  ......

do you realize the amount of saftey items you have to have to run 10's at a track such as a cage, sfi flywheel and clutch, a sfi scattersheild, wheel studs, 5pt racing harness (but you already have that right? Brian)

good luck and be careful not to blow the welds on your intake manifold

i will be upgrading my turbo in the spring just need some advice should i get the evo iii or the 20g i know their has been a thread about this but it was for a manual, so which one would be better for my auto, i want the one that spools up quicker?
thanks

That all depends on what you want from the car. The evoIII will give you quick spool and good power but it wont give good top end. The 20g will be laggy but give really good top end. If you are drag racing, the evoIII will be good to low 12's and any quicker than that can be gotten with the 20g. I know people will tell me the 16g will be faster than that but only with a good tune. It basically depends on your goals.

Whatever turbo you decide on....get a converter..
As far as the 20g, it's tried and proven, but there are others out there comparable in price with much better performance.
The EVO III is incredible from what I hear. I would think this is the best intermediate turbo, but still capable of ripping some serious numbers. It's got my vote....now only if they released it a few months before I bought my B16g :(

i am curious as to what turbo i should get, i dont wanna lotta lage and i want it to spool quickly, i am going to drive around normally with 16psi then when i need to i will run 24-26psi, at the moment i have a big 16g and i was gonna get it ported but i was just think maybe i should just get a bigger turbo with my money, and i wanna have about 380-400 hp when i am finished with the car so lemme know what you all think and any input is appreciated....

i was thinking about the green series turbo
that thing is a frikin beast!!!! would a walbro 225 and 660s be good enough for that turbo at 16-24 psi???

ryan

My friend has a AGP RS49 and my other has a TD06 20G. the RS49 does have more topend but its power delivery isnt as smooth as a 20G. I am not sure about the Green even though there both 50-Trims. They can have different characteristics because AGP uses a T31 and the FP uses a Monster Thrust but, I have driven both RS49 and TD06 20G and i like the 20G it seems more practical for a daily driver IMO.

does it still have the monsterous top end of a green??

Yes 255lph and 660cc injectors would be good for that turbo although running only 16psi would be a crime. You may want to up the range to around 18-24psi (this is of course if you have the proper supporting mods like and upgraded DP/Ported or larger 02 housing just to prevent boost creep and/or back pressure)

this isnt gonna be a daily driver (well it is but i wanna have a frikin beastly car) any way i want a turbo thats gonna spool relatively quick but have lots of top end, heres what i plan on, now help me figure out what turbo would be right.... i would like the masterly top end of a 50trim but i want it to spool perdy fast.....

(turbo but what???)
