Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

You may also want to look into a new exhaust manifold, tubular ones are more expensive but they get the job done. Also, Upgrade to a FMIC, because if you do run into getting a 50-trim, say goodbye to smaller turbo, say hello to alot more heatsoak!

I agree with him about getting another exhaust manifold, a ported 2g manifold would be cheaper and do the trick also :thumb:

oops i forgot to put that in there i already have one picked out....

you dont think the dejon super side mount will be enough??? one reason i went that was is so i could have the maf blowthru setup is there a fronttmount with this???

For a Big 16g I think it would be just OK but not a good idea. After awhile it would get pretty hot and get harder to cool. I would definately go with a FMIC just to be safe. :thumb:

then i have to make custom ic pipes huh...... because of the maf setup....... or do you guys know of any kits with maf setup???

ok heres the deal, im building a motor for a friend, fully built everything in the motor is top of the line aftermartket, becuase he doesent want anything to break, he bought the car(97 tsi awd) for 3k with 120k on the car with a blown motor and came with a spare 6bolt, he sold the six bolt and im building the seven, heres the deal! the car came with a greddy full front mount, full apex dp, and greddy catback, S-acf II, holley full pump, and best of all a forced performance green turbo, now the thing is i think the turbo is to big for this kid i wanna get him around 450 to the wheels for the track and be able to tune it for 350 for the wheels on the streets, is the turbo over kill? i mean i also ordered him a forester intake manifold, ported exhaust manifold , ported o2 with atmosphere dump, 850cc injectors, and autometer, boost, air fuel, and egt, gauges!

so i think im going to sell his turbo for him on here, what should he get, he doesent want to be wating till 5k for it to spool up, got any suggestions about anything?

fp green sounds like a good turbo for what you want.. if it were a fp red then maybe its too big.. if the turbo takes till 5k to spool there is a problem.

well i think its the green, its huge! and the turbo only has 100 miles, not even broke in, i was told it wont spool till almost 5k so im buildin the head to take out around 9k , to make use of the boost! if it is the green what will it spool up at?

its too hard to tell because there are so many different options you can get while ordering it that effects spool up and top end .. each one is different. You might want to contact forced performance to verify what type of turbo or perhaps there is a serial number on it and they can tell you exactly what options they made it with and give you a good idea what to expect.

An FP green will spool well below 5k.

I wouldn't change the turbo.
I thought Green spooled aroun 3.5-4k and the red spooled around 4.5-5k?

Okay then whoever told you this is full of it.....

it is a green i did some research, that news is great 3500 is perfect, so with a fully built motor, can I control enough fule wit the safc II, holey fuel pump, aeromitve fuel pressure regulator, and 850 cc injectors, to reach 400awhp what what psi do you think like 25-30?

Correct me if im wrong but the AFC can only tune +/- 50% and those size injectos are a lot more than 50% larger. I would recommend either a keydiver chip to correct the fuel maps and use the AFC to fine tune the new fuel map OR you just get DSMlink as that is a very nice tuning / logging program with many bonus features. You can of course do the full blown stand-alone if you are comfortable tuning with that.

Some people have been able to use the afc to correct for 720's but I don't know about 850's.

Hrmm I thought it could only if the ECU had the VPC chip in it?

thast not good, so can you explain were to get and how to use the dsm link, and also if i were to get him 720's could he run 25 psi with that turbo do you think :barf:

HI everyone!! Well i am new to this site and new to the turbo world. i know a little bit but not much. i drive a 96 talon tsi fwd. just found out the i have a cracked exhaust housing on my turbo. so i want to replace it. looking to upgrade a little but not to big. i really dont want to upgrade other parts yet because of my budget. so what turbo should i go with that will need little or no upgrades to run it. and of course i want a direct bolt on to all oil lines and manifold. thanks for your time

Any of the 16G's will suit you. Also a 14b, or a T28 or Big T28. I do not think the Big T28 Killer is a direct bolt on though.

With a new turbo, you will need an install kit with a J pipe, seals, gaskets and shit. I would also recommend a MBC, an air filter, and a boost gauge if you do not have one.

Yes the T-28 is a direct replacement, Big or normal. The 14b/16g series turbos need the feed and drain and j-pipe when put on a 2g. If you don't wanna spend alot of money just get an exhaust housing from another T-25 and wait till you have some money to spend for a new turbo. Im sure theres tons of T-2small's that people will sell. Other wise look to spend some cash on a turbo. www.turbochargers.com
