Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

the 14b is a tdo5 housing. it will be send out to turbo lab to be converted. i was thinking the 16g because turbo lab saiys the 20g doesnt reach its potential until around 20psi and has a little lag compared to the 16g.

Honestly, I would go 16g, or 20g.

I myself am toying with having an X compressor wheel stuffed into my spare 16g.

You will have to send it out, but it can be done.

How is that working out? i was looking at a billet wheel for a 20g from turbo lab. But i think that it will be to laggy for my setup, unless i decide to reach for a higher hp goal.

I'm not sure yet..I was throwing ideas around with turbo lab, to find a evo turbo for a twin scroll idea..Not too sure thats such a great idea anymore.

So If it cannot be found cheap enough..I think the x compressor wheel will go into my spare 16g.

Not to threadjack but my 99 gst has a 20g, stock im, exhaust mani and o2 housing, vrsf fmic, 3" cat and catback and 660 injectors. I'm going to take it to RRE to get it tuned to 14 p.s.i. in a few weeks. Hoping for 300 to the wheels for a nice dd also. Anyone thing it's possible???

Cams will get you much closer to 300.

There is a member here with just a 20g, untuned, with cams dyno'd at 280 something.

You need a bigger fuel pump, unless you forgot to list that^^ And the 300 would come easier with atleast a ported exhaust mani. Best to have that and a ported o2 housing to give your 20g the fastest spool up you can.

for the setup you have, i would def. go with a 16g. quick spool and you still will be able to make a decent amout of power with it.

Evo X compressor for sure if you're already getting machining done. It fits nicely behind a machined 14B cover, and costs nearly the same as a Small 16G upgrade- but instead uses a compressor with almost the same inducer spec as a Small 16G while having a 68mm exducer like the Big 16G/EvoIII 16G/18G/20G.

It will outspool anything bigger than a Small 16G while having better efficiency and top-end power than a Small 16G due to the larger exducer. Total airflow production should fall in between the Small 16G and Evo III, so somewhere in the 39-40lb/min range.

Sorry forgot to include the 255 Wally with rewire and afpr. Next up is probably porting and tubular mani but that's after I get out of school or get bored with it.

I was told with the 20g and 660's, the injectors will max out around 17 p.s.i. Anyone know if this is true???

Absolutely not. I have a customer currently using 650's @ 43.5psi base pressure with a Holset H1E (HX40) running boost around 23psi and he's not even at 90% duty cycle yet. Airflow is around 44-45 lb/min.

It's all in your tune. ;)

Don't you guys actually mean just the EVO X compressor wheel as opposed to the entire EVO X compressor? My last post didn't make it for some reason. If not, what is that compressor wheel? One of the turbo builders says that spool would be good with the EVO X compressor wheel but that the flow stinks.

All I care about is going down the quarter mile as quickly as possible and power from a roll (I know these requirements may be contradictory)....but I think for those goals I would be better off with an E316g.

Thoughts?

Evo X wheel, which is a 152G6. The wheel has the same exducer, blade shape/thickness, and hub size as the Evo III compressor. I can't see how the flow would "stink" being that it's modeled after such a successful compressor, and the Evo X's are rather potent in stock form.

Thanks for clarifying. I agree 100% with you.

So I have a Stock 95 gsx My turbo is going out what should I do ? go with stock or should I upgrade im not looking to put a huge amount of horsepower in it, Dont want it to die early, Current mods are Translab hp175 kit and Ipt end clutch kit, any one have any suggestions what route i should take? stock or something with a lil more pep and what will I have to change out if i Do upgrade to keep this thinkg from blowing up

T28, 14b, and 16g are all easily installed and can be ran at stock boost with the stock fuel system. The T28 will drop right in while the 14b and 16g require a J-Pipe along with some work to the oil and water lines. Install kits can be purchased from most vendors or peiced together for much cheaper.

Bu whatever you do, dont put another T25 in there. They are unreliable and completely useless in terms of performance. Even the 13g from an Automatic 1g is an upgrade from the T25.

so what needs to be done to the feed lines and thats all just some tampering with those can you buy them ready to put on? The T28 just drops in no problems or tampering?
Do you have any pics as to what i need to do if i want to slap a upgraded turbo in here or maybe a website or page i can look at?

Im just wondering, whats the best turbo with most boost, power, etc. that can bolt on directly on a 2g eclipse(97 gst spyder), other then the stock T25 of course.

The only other direct fit turbo is a t-28. Which needs to have an upgraded fuel system to even get into its peak effeciency range if not 12psi would suffice. But, before u decide to swap turbos have u tried doing the free mods this site has to offer and upgrade ## bolt ons. Even the t-25 can be restricted by stock intake and exhaust system freeing up power when swapped. Try looking at the upgrade section in the tech section first.

Theres a bunch of "bolt-on" mitsu flange turbos out there. When upgrading to any of those turbos you have to have supporting mods to go with. ie fuel, exhaust, intake, intercooler.
I'm running a mitsu flange turbo an fp3065. Still considered a bolt on. Thats at 35psi around 600awhp.

First figure out you power goals and what you want to do with the car. A good street turbo with great spool and power would be a 16g. But with that you need fuel mods to support, software to log/tune with and a wideband to monitor the motor
