I would stick manual get it built and never look back. That's my plan anyway. Wavetrac and some decent slicks on some wide rims. My last major upgrade. My fp green is just about ready to get sent back to me

Mine was built...it almost made 9 passes down the track. I think.bb I spent around $2600 if I remember correctly.

Yes do tell. If so then thats the nail in the coffin on 5 speeds for me. My digging has uncovered that the stock autos will handle up to 400 horses. If you couple reliability with consistancy (never missing a shift), you cant go wrong.

I'm seriously debating going to an auto tranny to avoid these kinds of 5-speed problems. What et would you guys expect from a FWD car trapping 101? I'm only curious because of those atrocious shifts and piss poor launches that really mucked up my time.

101 mph is good enough for a mid 13. Maybe 13.3's with good 60'

I'm actually in the process of building a fully built 2.3 Stroker for my 97 GST. I'm also buying a stage 2 TRE transmission. We will see what it is like after the build. I'm putting my 68hta back on the car after the build just to get a feel for the Stroker before I buy a bigger turbo. I was thinking of a FP 82r for the upgrade. Go big or go home. On my stock setup with the 68hta on 13 psi I ran a 14.5 at 98mph. It was my first time at the track in 5 years. The transmission will help with traction also.

Greetings my FWD brethren. I sent my spyder down the track this past weekend and was greatly disappointed. My butt dyno had told me that this was a low 14 sec car, but it was very wrong. This was my first drag strip pass in a vehicle. I'm used to cutting 1.4 60s and 10 flat passes on my little 600cc CBR, but this was an entirely different endeavor. Launching these peg legged, traction starved, chunky butt cars takes some skill and I tip my hats to you gents who do it well. My 60ft is so embarrassing that I won't even post it. My trap speed tells me that the car has some potential, but the driver needs some work. I had a hell of a time making the 1-2 shift. It feels like there is a wall there and I literally have to muscle it into gear. There is no grinding at all, only a stubborn and constant resistance that requires considerable force to overcome. Thoughts and encouragement are welcome. Thanks guys. I needed to vent and cry a little on the inside at the same time. Here it is.....

I'm curious as to why you chose BC 280s? Planning to upgrade to a large turbo soon?

Having the headroom to upgrade to a larger turbo later is a nice feature, but the real reason for those bumpsticks lies elsewhere. I smeared a cam journal on my last head and purchased the current used complete head to replace it. Since my stock intake cam was damaged as well, I went ahead and installed the complete head and valvetrain that included the BCs. I realize that they probably aren't optimal for my current setup. Sounds nice though.

what do you have in way of motor mounts? polyurethane all the way around? a good set of motor mount will improve high RPM shifting since they stop the engine from rocking around

also your car has a 13 second pass in her, and i thought i was disappointed wit my 13.6. thought the same day i ran that pass i also ran a 14.2 at 111 LOL

Full poly side mounts with those crappy poly inserts in front and rear. Im having some solid mounts fabricated to aleviate the rocking situation.

My first time at the track after swapping my N/T to a 14b setup I ran a 14.3 @ 101 on street tires with a 2.4 60'.

Those look good but I have access to a machine shop and unlimited materials. Im going for fully fabricated solid mounts to replace the junk that came from the factory.

I feel you man first time ever doing a drag race and second gst I've owned and I did horrible at the track. Did two passes the first time I went and just horrible I was ashamed but found a big boost leak. Kinda patched it up for the moment so its not as bad. Next week I did hoorible the first time again. I hit that 1-2 wall you was talking about LOL but second time I slipped the clutch off the line and shifted good and hit a 9.9at 69.9mph with a 2.4sec 60 ft. That was in my fourth time ever dragging in my life. :hellyeah: Still have a boost leak but will run again when its fixed. Hoping for better times. Gotta work on my reaction time. LOL If you hit 75 in the 1\8th you deff have potential for better times. Keep working on it man!

I dont get this one problem I am trying to figure out.

Why arent there tons of FWD dsm's running 10s, 11s, and 12s?

This car has been around for 15 years and there are like a handfull of fast FWD's

On the other hand, the srt4, only around for like 3 years, has dozens of cars in the 11's, hundreds in the 12's and some in the 10s, most on stock blocks and trannies still

I dont get it??? Is there just something weird about our cars? Why is it so hard for us to go fast?

I am very very tempted to kill this trend. My tranny blew 2nd and I was gonna swap a stocker in and sell the car, but im like 99% set for calling TRE and ordering their race tranny, swapping some slicks on it and puttin down some times.

They have this new AWD tranny setup they are selling that work on FWD dsm's, and retain the awd gearing, maybe the fwd tranny isnt geared right or something, maybe the awd tranny will help???

Its expensive, $2500 with quaife, but its brand new, its built up and it has better gearing.

I put down 342whp on my old bullseye turbo, vtrim, and Im getting a 50trim from them now to replace my old turbo and then some cams to get about 400whp

With that and traction, it should easily do 11's. If not, Im stumped. I just dont understand why there arent more hardcore FWD dsm's around.

Im right here :hellyeah:

So that stuborn 1-2 shift is common for our cars? I literally feel like im about to break a shift fork off when im attempting to make it fall in.

Edit: Fixed some HUGE boost leaks on my FMIC piping. They were so bad that I can't believe that my little 16g could actually hold 16psi. I see now why it took 5k rpm to generate and hold that pressure. Time to take her out for a test drive. :hellyeah:

Double Edit: Patching up the boost leaks only brought my spool down by a few hundred RPMs.

Need some quick advise guys. Tomorrow im going to get my car aligned after replacing rear toe arms and redoing the whole rear suspension with poly bushings. What's a good toe setting for front and rear. I was thinking 0 in front and -5 in rear what do you guys think. This is a daily driver and I drag race once a month. Thx for any help kk shootz

I would pesonally put it into actual spec since you drive it on the daily. Just my opinion though. Keeps tire wear down.

I think you should be in the low 14's with more seat time. The track condition can make a big difference too. Some tracks are prepped really well while others are crap. Makes a big difference for FWD.

I may give it another shot tomorrow. We'll see if I can get it to hook and shift any better. I ran across a local with a quaiffe diff for a reasonable price. I'm tempted to scoop it up and throw it in.

We are racing this weekend finally, well weather permitting. I'm hopin to see some mid-low 12 passes. Got my tune down really good on 92 pump and plan to run 110oct at the track. So should be able to add some good timing and really make some power. Going to run about 22psi boost and really heat the slicks up for a good launch. Ill post some vids after the weekend. Should be a good turn out, cruising down with my buddies Sti and a Evo ready to smoke some annoyinglly loud Hondas LOL. But really just to have fun and get our cars down the track alittle faster each pass. Kk shootz
