I'm not sure what to make of our timeslips. I'd like to know if I'm missing something here. I know the burnout sucked for 10.75, but it seems like there's more to it. Any ideas?

89 Mirage Turbo/BEP S259/5 spd/2550 lbs with me in it.

Not sure what you were doing in the 2nd 1/8th of some of those runs, but from your 1st 1/8th times you should be looking at 10.5's - 10.6's

Hey guys I'm not anywhere close to some of you, but trying to lay down some better numbers this coming year. Any suggestions to my setup I would love to break low 13's to high 12's in 2011. I just picked up a spare gst for parts and going to use the 16's off it for some drag radials or slicks. Not sure which to get yet because I'm still running open diff. Also our track here sucks it's slick as hell which explains my horrible 60' time on my slip. I think I have a trap speed for mid to low 13's. So what would you all suggest open to opinions. Going fast in a awd is easy, just like a street hooker... I guess we just loved a real challenge.

More like most of us got sick of spending twice as much money to do what we can do in an AWD with basic modifications. I thought I liked the challenge too, but my pockets were starting to get desperate for attention, because the dollars never stayed in them.

For the FWD guys, best luck, hope you make my former GST proud, but at what point can one continue to swim upstream?

Was going to try and make the 12's this year but it looks like 2011 will be my best bet im also getting some more goodies to see how far i can take this 14b on slicks with a full weight car....

Our time slips are nearly identical:
You: Me: Difference:
60' 2.454 : 2.439 +0.015
1/8th 9.677 : 9.508 +0.169
MPH 78.160 : 79.490 -1.330
1/4 14.572 : 14.336 +0.236
MPH 101.230 : 101.170 +0.060

Our setups is where you start to see a big difference though:
You: Me:
Turbo: HRC Super 16g : Stock 14b
Intercooler: Supra SMIC : Stock SMIC (At the time)
Injectors: FIC 550's : Stock 450's
Tuning: ECMlink V3lite : Stock
Tires: 225/45/17 street : 215/50/17 street
Pistons: Stock 8.5:1 : Wiseco 8.3:1

The rest of our setups are pretty similar.

I would say that you already have all of the right ingredients. I'll bet it's all in the tune and the driving now. My next upgrade is V3lite and some bigger injectors and I'm expecting to have that push me into 13's. What are your IDC's with the 550's? What is your WOT AFR? Hows the lag on that Super 16g? (although lag should help with FWD traction.) At what RPM do you hit full boost and at what RPM are you shifting at? I'd say you need more time on the track (practice makes perfect) and more time dialing in your tune. (Maybe cams and springs so you can rev higher and get more out of your turbo) BUT, like I said, with your setup you should be in the 13's easy.

Also, hows the weather in Kauai? I'm going to be honeymooning on Oahu in 2 weeks!!!

Are you guys wanting to go 13s on street tires? I ran a 14.8@93mph on street tires bone stock in my 90 Laser and 13.8@96 mph with 160lb of weight removal, slicks and a mbc with boost up to 14-15psi. With slicks, that super 16g should go low 13s all day and could break into the 12s depending on driver, fuel type and tune.

I just finished getting my built transmission and new axles along with front suspension back in yesterday. I'm still pulling the timing belt and front case off right now along with the OFH and some other stuff. Replacing all the gaskets, as I'm sure the last 20 years and 144k miles they haven't been changed. Some of the gaskets are as hard as the metal surfaces they are sealing. Unfortunately I'm going to Texas in a couple weeks and will be there until mid February. No progress will be completed on the car during then, but it will give me some time to get some more parts together!

Good luck with all the goals for everyone in 2011!

Well as for the weather it's winter so that means lots of rain. But then again it's hawaii so its still pretty nice. And I forgot to mention that time slip was before I installed Ecmlink, 550's, and wideband. I was on stock tune and 450's and also my gizzmo msibc stopped working. So I had to rig up a crappy mbc and was only running 16 psi which is not the sweet spot of the super16g. As for the super I really love it it's not that laggy but just enough to help with fwd. When the boost kicks in is above 3500 and it's hits hard and stays solid till redline. I got a sick deal on it from a friend on island so I'm goin to stick with it for awhile. So with that said I know I'm no where near the full potential of my setup but with my upgrades I think I can hit my goal in 2011. Also a new gizzmo will be here soon for accurate boost control.

Yes I would like to hit 13's on the 14b with street tires. DSMlink and injectors are next. After that I would like to get a set of slicks for the track and then a bigger turbo and my goal will be mid to low 12's FWD, full interior.

Awesome sounds good, I can't wait to get there! Ok I was wondering how you were running that slow with your setup, LOL. In that case our setups and times were both nearly identical. I was running 14 psi on my pass. I'll be getting link and injectors in the next 2 months and then it's 13's or bust. :thumb:

Ya I started tuning this month and our race season starts in march can't wait. Oh if you want a good idea of what the weather will be like when you come. Google weather hawaii first link has the best local weather for all the islands. And congrats on getting married you guys should have a blast in Oahu. Need any pointers on what to do or where to go pm me I go over to Oahu alot. Anyway back on topic ya link has already made some great improvements to my setup. Just need my msibc back to really start tuning.

I'm hoping I can get my car up and running before April. I don't get much time to spend on it...and right now I'm out of town. With a new baby at home, time is spent with her the most...and a couple hours here or there when she is sleeping.

Keep us all updated when you guys get running and back out to the track.

i just recently bought a 96 gst hoping to run 12s with my setup off my oneg which is evo3 16g with external wg 38mm 22psi magnus intake 550s dsmlink what is your thoughts

Street tires on that setup? If so, that will be a good goal. Just have to launch low so you don't blow the tires off first thing. You can do it though.

You can probably go 12s on street tires, and a good bit quicker on DRs. There was a local guy here in Cali with an AWD Talon that just went 10.5 on the Evo 3 16g. Once I go that route, I'm hoping to be running deep into the 11s or high 10s on that turbo. I'm hoping to go 11s on the 14b once I get everything up and running.

this is an really interesting topic i just picked up a 90 gst and i am going to try and max she ol 14b out i also want to run low 13s or high 12s is this possible on a 14b or i will need a big turbo

Im going to be heading to the track sometime this month right after I get tuned. I am going to be trying to run 25-28 psi on e85. Do you guys have any suggestions on launching or in the burnout box. I have a stage 2 tranny without an lsd according to the guy I bought it from. Also looking for your guys input I'm looking for some new tires? What would you guys suggest?

You looking for slicks or street tires?

just picked up my gst a month ago! Soon as the track opens ill be down there to see what she has in her..

I would like slicks but I am not sure how my trans will hold up. Have u had any luck with slicks withough an lsd. What slicks would u recommend that are a little safe on the tranny if that exist. I'm planning on mounting them on stock gst rims. My goals for the car are mid 12s.
Thanks.

I ran slicks on my car for 5-6 runs with a completely stock drivetrain. No issues there. With a built trans, you will be fine. It's just when you do a burnout, you might have to turn the wheels side to side a little to make sure both tires are spinning. Otherwise, no worries.

I don't know the size of the stock wheels. I bought some 15X8 wheels from JEGS with M/T 24.5x8x15 ET drag slicks. Worked great and that's what I plan to run once my car is built according to what I have planned for it!

Hoosier qtp or hoosier DR 225-50-16 I ran 10.9s with the DRs. Your trans will hold its just a matter of shifting and it going in gear. If you have solid mounts and the pressure in the tires around 14ish you wont get wheel hop.......

UPDATE!!!!

The 26x10s on about to go on the car this weekend and I will be heading back to the dyno in preperation for the IFO in Gainesville on the 27th. Hoping to hit low 9s
