Where are the FWDs at????

Is there even any reason to do that? Why not just run a built FWD trans? Seems it would just add more weight unless the gearing is better.

They have shorter gear ratios and tons more mods out there. But the last time I talked to John @ TRE he told me that the 2g fwd has stronger gears than the awd. Either way im switching to auto cause im tired of blowing gears and having to rebuild, the auto will also allow for some driver error and be more consistant.

I am on a AWD trans converted to FWD. I do miss my longer FWD gearing but the AWD trans seems to hold up better to the power.

You would just run a AWD trans and have the center diff welded to run FWD. But if i am correct the guts of the FWD autos are the same minus the AWD components. I am not sure if Shep is building autos. I have never heard that though.

Im hoping to be in the 12's in the next few weeks on my stock 14b with other mods/slicks......I know it's no record but thats my goal before i throw on my Precision 5957 and other mods i have laying around waiting to be installed.....

Do it buddy!

What size wheel would I need to run for the 225/45/17 bfgs? Would 17x7 +42 fit?

That wheel should work fine. I personally would run a +38 or similar offset. But that's just me.

Good luck on the 12s. I have my car stripped completely on the interior and just have a few more things to remove in the engine bay before I'm ready to put it all back together with the built head and cams, balance shaft delete, 65mm throttle body, ETS 3.5" race intercooler kit, ported 14b with 7cm^2 hotside, and 2g MAF on Evo 8 ECU on E85. I'm hoping first time out with this setup will result in deep 12 second territory if not better!. I think the car will weigh in around 2200lb or so once I'm finished stripping stuff out of it. I would love to get it down around 2k lb, but not sure if that's possibly without going to lexan glass all around and doing some other very drastic things. I know that would shave a LOT of weight though.

If you need anything give me a shout im within 45mins of orlando. That 5957 should get you into the low low 10.1s with a good set of slicks and good transmission.

Is it only beneficial to put the auto AWD trans into a FWD, or do the manual versions have the same differences?

Hmmm i didnt know that, if i can trap atleast 130mph ill be happy should be a decent roll car.......:sneaky:

Popped in a new PB the other week, first FWD Mitsi in the UK to make the 10's

10.554 @ 136.21

We now have a new webpage that records the fastest FWD cars in the uk

The UK's Fastest FWD cars

I'm currently 6th, but we are dropping in a 4g63 (well 4g64) ready for next season and aiming a lot higher, trying to take it into the 9's

Sick! 10.5 is quick on a FWD!! Any idea of the weight and power of that car?

Nice website! I like having the vids posted next to the timeslip.
Good luck with the new setup!

Can you make it any lighter than that? I'm hoping to eventually get my 1G down around 2200lb or so without me, if not a little lighter.

I should be making a few passes with some more boost and slicks in the next week or two 12's or bust!

nice good luck. Set the tire pressure to around 8-10psi and do a good 2nd gear burnout if you can. You should have no problem with traction.

Thanks will deff. try that im just afraid of going thru the water box and only spinning one tire since im stuck with a open diff.

Should be ok. I got both slicks to spin on my Laser with stock power! ;) I just did it for a few seconds. Was pointless to do much more than clean them and get them a little warm. It took a lot just to spin them when I was trying, so I knew I wouldn't spin much on the launch if at all.

10psi in your passenger tire and 8psi in your driver tire.

I have to say Richard33 your fwd is getting there. I need to put mine back togeather and put new numbers up.

My changes for next season

Delta k280s, OTP race beehives
JMF drag
62-1 compressor wheel for the time being till I finish the top/foreward facing turbo maifold for the bw372-88
Awd trans converted to fwd use
Direct port nos of about 125shot
26x10x15 mickeys with skinnys on the rear

Thanks! Sounds like a serious setup. I would love to spray my car but I dont think the car would hook. It spins first hard and hazes 2nd already.

If you get enough wheel speed even with the open diff both tires will spin. Just sit on the 2 step, dump the clutch and keep the rpms up above 6k. Stay on the ebrake for a little then roll out of it. Should be good to go.

I will deff. try that i should be making it to the track this friday i will deff. post the results!

I'm not sure what to make of our timeslips. I'd like to know if I'm missing something here. I know the burnout sucked for 10.75, but it seems like there's more to it. Any ideas?

89 Mirage Turbo/BEP S259/5 spd/2550 lbs with me in it.

you can definitely make FWD fast, I think most people see building a FWD as a waste of time when they offered an AWD version of our cars. Over all I am with you, I am putting new suspension on mine and adding a bigger turbo and more fuel. The hardest part is launching out of the hole, top end is great.
