I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Bad deal. And if you want to get into the tuner world, DSM's are not cheap.

I would disagree; they are relatively cheap. What other car can you buy for a couple grand, do a fairly small amount of mods, and have 3-400 hp without even opening up the engine? And it's something you can drive all the time, even year round in the cold and snowy climates. Even something to tune other types of cars, costs many times more than with a DSM.

You could have a DSM with $5-6000 in the whole car, and beat a new $50,000 sports car.

All dsms (turbo) are fun, but personally I'd hold out for a awd at the very least. If your just looking for a d.d. and keeping it some what stock I guess fwd would be o.k. it's up to you and I wouldn't pay more than $2000-2500 at the most theirs always more work to be done on older cars.

theirs always more work to be done on older cars.

Nothing more true than that. 1G's are almost 20 years old; even if well taken care of and low mileage, things deteriorate and wear out.

You could get a 2G GST for nearly the same price. I think 1G's are nicer and better built than 2G's, but they're also older, making them just not worth as much.

I don't know, I have way to much money into my car, and I had it all budgeted and planned out, but we all know how that works.

240sx's are very good and very cheap tuner cars. I have boosted 3 of them, and placed a LS1 and a LS3 in the same 240. But on stock internals I watched my buddy run 12.3 for under 2k, including the purchase price of the car.

I mean I love and enjoy dsm's but if you are looking for a cheap tuner, I would always recommend a 240, because I have been down both routes, and 240s way cheaper.

94 Chevy Corsica (V6), about 180,000 miles

Only bad thing he said is that the interior could use some work (I can always go to AutoMD and Repairpal), but for someone that doesn't have that car/knows nothing about it...Is that a good deal?

Ask him about how the car runs. If it's a V6 I'm assuming it's an older 3.1L engine. These engines are good for blowing head Gaskets and intake gaskets. If it doesn't over heat at all and has good heat inside the car I'd say go for it.

If it runs, has heat/AC, and you need a daily driver, sure.

+1 on that unless heat and ac don't matter for you.

I'd take it to a mechanic to see what kind of damage there is but 750 isn't something to complain about unless it's not going to run properly or break down after you get it.

Only you know if it's worth $750 to you.

Not worth it, you can get much better stuff for $750 and I am not being sarcastic. The Corsica is a total throw away car. I am doing an intake gasket now on a Beretta (Corsica Coupe), and Chevy wont even supply us with parts because the cut them off. No one wants them anymore. So, we had to get them aftermarket and that was hard to find. And also, the blue book on that Beretta is seriously $180. Talk about worthless.

Anyway, I'd spend a few hundred bucks more and get an 80's or early 90's Honda or Toyota. I bought a 95' Accord w/189K miles for $800, so it's worth waiting and looking around.

For that mileage, it'd have to be in pristine condition to fetch that much. If in good running order, I'd pay only a few hundred, max. My brother and I used to have one and they seem to have problems fairly often.

erg yeah thats really what i want to avoid i hate when i have to worry about car problems even after a mechanic visit

but any kind of leak on the track is bad news!

yea thats true, but i had a oil leak on my gst, that was very small and only made a difference over a long period of time. I know what you mean though, i dont want to worry about leaks on the track. Even if this leak is a big problem, it still may be a steal with all the parts it already has. It is a 6bolt 4 bolt rear and has eprom.

I think you should jump on it. It has the 6 bolt/4bolt rear, so its pretty good already. The leak probably will be a problem. A car with a fresh rebuild should not be having a oil leak. Sounds fishy. But I still think its a steal. GO FOR IT :)
Taran

Thats what im thinking. LOL. I know its been on craigslist for several months so i may be able to get a lower price. I get my bonus pretty soon, and i think i may use some of it for this. Even if it's a huge oil leak, i can still part it out, or swap the 6 bolt into my dd.

I did the opposite of what your doing, garaged my 97 GSX and bought a 93 civic vx as a daily driver. So the GSX is my track / weekend car and I save about 60+ bucks in gas a month, 20mpg vs 38mpg LOL
