I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

I'd be a lot more concerned about the salvaged title than the oil leak. It was obviously wrecked pretty hard in the front and that's why there's "crinkles where the door and fenders meet." Could have some frame damage. Tell him you'll give him $1000.

having a salvage title doesn't mean you can't run it at the track ;-). and it looks like a good deal to me. i would just wonder which rims/tires it came with since there are two different setups in the pics. good find. and hey if you decide to part it out at least you got some good parts to get some money for.

True....but doesnt it make you wonder why it got the salvage title? I mean depending on what was done, i wouldnt want to be launching AWD going down the track at 100mph for something to go wrong...

2300 is alot for that car. that thing is a pile for that kind of cash. keep looking i just bought a 95 tsi awd for 1500 on craigslist with boost controller, electronic boost gauge, and hks turbo timer. no rust no dents it spun a rod bearing and i have a 6 bolt block siting around. there are amazing deals out there so dont sell yourself short. that car is crap

salvage title scary and every ones already stated the oil leak on a new rebuild awd 6bolt/4bolt if your building it for the track buy it fix the leak have fun =).

but i bought a 91 laser last month for 350.00 that the guy couldnt figure out what was wrong with it and
the ecu was just fried granted it isnt awd but its still a turbo car and was a steal .

there are better deals just look around in fields and around town and just ask if they are interested in selling .

Looks like a steal. Though the oil leak could kill your wallet. If I lived closer I would probably jump on that.

You make it sound like non-leaking DSM's exist. Are they on some other distant planet?

I agree that 2300 isn't really a good deal. However, I don't think a salvage title really matters much on a car that's almost 20 years old.

Except that the bent unibody could have you turning left continuously. Which maybe be good in nascar, but not going straight or left and right. Also perfect condition body 1g's are the same price or lower.

salvage title could mean anythng. could have been stolen and recovered. hell carfax it if your worried about it. i wouldnt pay 2300 for it but if you can get it for 1500 or less that wouldnt be a bad deal i wouldnt think. especially if your goin to use it for your track beater. i'd say its almost perfect.

Obviously it wasn't stolen because you can SEE with your eyes that it has been wrecked. Where the car is buckled at both doors means that it was hit from the front and the body bent rearward. So repair work was done, but not finished.

LOL. how can it be obvious it wasnt stolen. im glad you can tell from photos if vehicles have been stolen or not. it is obvious that it has had some damage to it but, no way to tell what is exactly wrong with it or how it was exactly damaged, without checkin it out for yourself. your always takin a risk buy'n a used car, but as long as you know that and what is 1500 dollars anyway for a fun weekend toy.

My point is that its inconsequential if it was stolen or not, its still wrecked. My other point is that the price ASKED, not your made up $1500 number, is what we should be determining if its worth it or not. I agree if you can get it for a steal of a price anything is worth it, hell for $1500 you could make out like a bandit with a partout.

alright heres waht he said
The car will drive fine if you don't step on the gas too hard. When you step on the gas hard, the turbo guage starts to build, then quick drops off and the car runs rough.

doesnt sound like electical problem to me

Doesn't sound like it to me either. I think it's worth taking a look at. May just need a tune-up, a turbo rebuild, or fix a boost leak.

For a thousand bucks I would at least go look at it. I payed $1300 for my car and the kid I bought it from couldn't figure out what the "low rpm, low load, miss" was from!!! A simple boost leak test and some new clamps gave me one hell of a steal!!!

Take a look at the car and let us know what you think.

he doesn't have alot posted other then the rebuild engine and the upgrades
he doesn't list that it has anything wrong with it what so ever
you should ask if anythings wrong and then re-post what he says
also seeing the mods on the car, it may have a "newer" motor but that cars been pushed hard
if it runs clean and all that then its a great deal
other then it being fwd:p

It looks like a good deal to me. Just when you go to see the car make sure theres nothing obviously wrong with it. I don't like how he says he didn't have time to "finish the project" and sold "as is", though normal when used together would sketch me out a bit. Looks like a good deal but just beware.
