What is this car worth / Is this car a good deal?

I found a 1996 Spyder GST for $4900. It is a 5-speed, 91,000 miles on it, white with black top, 17 inch rims. There is 80% tread left on the tires but the guy has a brand new never used set of tires for the car that is included in the price. He says the top doesn't leak, but it had a rip and was repaired, but he didn't like it, so he bought a brand new oem top that isn't installed and is included with the car. He says the interior is really nice, everything inside works, but you have to help the top up a little bit. He doesn't know if the timing belt has been replaced or not. It has a 3 inch cat back exhaust, 16G turbo, apexi intake and a greddy bov. He says it runs great and has no issues. He says he just wants to get rid of it because he doesn't drive it and its taking up space in his garage, which sounds good to me because he kept it garaged at least. he also said that the paint is good on it, no clear coat coming off, no body damage or dents. I'm going to check for crankwalk be looking at the clutch pedal when I turn left. I have been talking to the guy over the phone and I'm suppose to go drive for 4 hours to go and buy it if it checks out on Thursday. Does it sound good? Should I ask him or check for other things on it?

Could be a scam - but thats about average price for a gsx where i live - they can even be bought cheaper

Some of that is photoshopped, and i have seen that car somewhere on this forum, but in different form.

If its selling near you it could be a good price since WI is a great place for rust to form. but I also have seen that for sale here in FL so its for sure a scam. beautiful color tho to bad it is to goo to be true

so i tried to explain to her that it is not the clutch. it is the tranny. so she got so mad she hung up on me.
so i think that if they are trying to pass it off as something small, then i can only wonder what else is really wrong with the car

I paid 4 grand for a 98 gsx that needed a trans, id say based on condition its still a steal

Thank you for the link. The car is 5 1/2 hrs away from me. I will be calling tomorrow, And hopefully going to get it monday morning if they agree and still have it.. If any of you did not know already... The shell alone is worth DOUBLE what they are asking, No matter the condition!

Yeah i buy and fix and resell dsms all the time - i have 7 now not to mention several other cars and trucks - and toys - if i werent laid off id already have bought it - thats about average around here i can buy dsms that need work all the time for that price or even cheaper thats why i have so many

Need to investigate it more first though. I've already found a scam in Florida that really broke my spirit yesterday.

I don't think it's that great of a deal. It's just a FWD.

Bad deal. And if you want to get into the tuner world, DSM's are not cheap.

If you want to buy this, then when you go to see it...
Do a compression check, the tool costs under 30 bucks at sears and you can do it yourself very easily.
Check the timing belt for condition and tightness.
Drive it, see if it smokes out the exhaust

After that, if you're impressed with it. Give the guy 2500 and enjoy your new car. Maybe use the 500 you save off the price on initial maintenance. NOT mods.
