1G what are signs of bent valves???

Low compression , rockers laying loose under valve cover, o start condition. Best way to find out is a compression/leakdown test.

ummmmm a leakdown test will tell you real quick too. If you can get access to a compressor you dont even NEED the leakdown tool, you can regulate it down to 50psi or so and hook up a comp tester. Put it at tdc compression stroke, verify visually all valves are closed and hook the hose up. You can def hear the air escaping through intake, exhaust, or crank case(if it were the rings that is).

Check your timing. If its off you're going to have bent valves. Try a compression test.

Timing can actually be off a bit and NOT bend valves. So what youre saying is not exactly true. It depends how far off obviously. Just to clarify, not flaming you bro.

When they are that bent, it really will not matter how flat or level the surface is.

Oh shit bud! Your stove is bent up bad bro! LOL

Seriously tho, was that a timing belt snappage at considerable rpm or load? Ive never personally seen bent valves. Cool pic, not for you i guess but thanks for showing

Obvioulsy if you bent your valves the engine will not crank unless the timing belt is broke or shredded. I bent 4 at idle and engine will not crank. If you need valves I have some spares.
This is what a nice set of stainless oversized valves will look like after proper installation :) and about $600 down

Is there any way to check the timing without pulling my crank pulley. Like is the marks on crank pulley that would be tdc.

Put #1 cylinder at TDC. Pull the valve cover if you have to, to make sure youre at TDC compression stroke, cylinder 1. Then, take a peek at the cam gears. marks should be facing each other. If not, timing is off. Intake mark should be 9 o'clock, exhaust mark 3 o'clock.

I can line both up perfect at top end but I do not know if the crank is lined up or in time. Any other way to tell. And which cylinder is number 1. And what should I be looking for under valve cover.

There is a notch on the balancer, and a bump on the front cover, line the small notch on the balncer, you will have to look for it, with the T on the bump of the front cover.

Or drop a long 1/4 extension, or screw driver, when it goes up as high as it can when you rotate the crank, that will be TDC.

#1 cylinder is the one closest to the timing belt.

1992 would still be a 1g, that came with the 4g63 NT engine.

The 420A is in the 2g NT

:coy: Sorry, thought it was the op still.... I need to check avatars closer...

I didnt even notice the avatar LOL. But, you were asking about a 4g63 afterall so you got the correct info. Good deal. Bogus nailed it, to see TDC just put a screw driver down the plug hole once its as high as it will go and all 4 valves on that cylinder are CLOSED, then you can check timing.

You dont need to see the crank because you know where the crank is if #1 is TDC compression stroke. You pickin up what im layin down?

Yes sounds pretty simple. So pull spark plug off number 1 cylinder insert screwdriver. And turn till its at its highest peak and check top end timing marks correct.

I would check the crank marks first, the screw driver method will get you close. But always check the crank marks first, then check the cam marks
