timing belt broke while drivin, chance of bent valves?

Ok I was driving down the road going 30 mph barely pushing the gas and all of a sudden my timing belt broke and I shut the car off imediately. Did I mess anything up?

Those pistons are fine. They look a hell of alot better than the ones from my t-belt failure in my Talon, and I cleaned mine up and continued to run them.

For record, after my t-belt went, I bent 14 valves and also ruined 14 guides. And with all machinework, parts, and gaskets, I spent a grand total of only $360 to get it back on the road. Rebuilding isn't always expensive.

Here's a tip. These alumina zirconia pieces are absolutely perfect for deburring the dings in pistons. These are found at any hardware store for around $1-2.

Well I was only going thirty and i happened to be in neutral when it happened so when i seen my belt fly off i shut my car off right away. ANd 99gst_racer, I was wondering if you can look at my other thread about what other things to buy when im puttin my head back in. Btw, $350? That's it? What did you all have done and also I was just going to find one in good condition for sale. The reason I need to do this is because I live in minnesota so its going to get cold soon and my car sits outside and to add I am a college student and work part time and its my dd so I want to get this thing together fast but in the proper way.

And so far all that is costing me 690 dollars from Maperformance. That is without a head.

Here's my breakdown:

$120 - 3 angle valve job
$48 - 16 new guides and labor to install them
$63 - assembly/disassembly
$40 - valves
$85 - complete gasket set

I already had a spare timing belt laying around, so I didn't need to buy that. The head was still flat, so it didn't need to resurface it either. My balance shafts were already long gone. And the rest of the timing components weren't very old, so I didn't replace anything there. But the above prices are pretty good. I get good deals on parts and labor thanks to my friends, acquantainces, and where I work. But even without my hook-ups, I'd only be looking at about $100 more for everything.

You could gamble on a used head, but then you wouldn't know much about it's history and/or the condition of each component on it.

Oh nice, yeah I dont mind paying what im paying because its all new things, I just hope im not missing anything.

I was doing 70 on the freeway in a car I had just bought. I didn't get so lucky, but at least the seller chipped in to get it towed back home I guess. Lol he did recommend I type it, but when I asked him why he didn't really have an answer so I didn't think it would be an issues. Well I learned my lesson!! Do you think my Pistons are still useable? Lol. I guess it's a good thing he just had a cheap Chinese turbo on it. Half a valve went through the exhaust into the turbo and knocked the ceiling ring into the turbine housing. Now that's how you clip your turning Wheels. not gonna post pics, but also managed to damage my camshafts. Oh and all this Carnage was caused by one 6 mm bolt that came off of the starter plate and jammed the flywheel/clutch inside the housing. That being said there was a reasonable amount of oil on the belt itself so it had already been weakened. Another one of life's wonderful lessons.

I was there a few years ago.........the car is STILL sitting (but all the damage has been repaired, it's just not put back into the car yet).
It sucks but it is a DSM.
