people have been telling me 10.30w or 10.40w engine oil. i heard syncromesh was good as well. what transmission fluid should i use. i went to the chrysler dealership and they're charging me $20 a quart for fluid. what fluid did you guys use and how did it turn out

ATF+4 is the ONLY fluid that goes in that Chrysler tranny.

Granted AMSOIL "Universal Transmission Fluid" may work okey, but why take the risk? ... and it's more expensive than stock ATF+4 ..

Any other fluid will destroy the syncros since they have a different cone arrangement that needs the friction modifier that in that fluid than the other fluids don't have.

Chrysler uses a felt lined cone arrangement in the syncro set that will be destroyed by using the other fluids - why the friction modifier.

..and the ATF+4 is also good for the F4A22 and the W4A33 Mitsu auto trannies....

Good luck

I ran royal purple for about 4 months, loved it the first two weeks, or if I was pushing it super hard, beyond but beyond that when I switched to amsoil synchromesh, will never go back to anything else.

Is there any reason that atf is used in a manual?
Yes, the manufacturer of the transmission recommends it. There used to be a very expensive fluid specifically for the NV-T350, but it has been discontinued and ATF+4 is the suggested replacement.

That's what I'm saying ! I've never heard of using ATF in a manual transmission/transaxle, but after some searching on google it appears that some of the neon guys on the neon forums say that Chrysler started using ATF+4 from the factory in the NV-T350 ( F5MC1) Manual transaxle in later model years.

It's suggested to use whatever your came with from the factory. It's also suggested that the NV-T350 (F5MC1) Transaxle is more so a Mitsubishi design rather than a Chrysler design. Remember DSM is a joint venture between Mitsubishi and Chrysler, So Engineering, design and parts came from Mitsu and Chrysler.

Use what the manufacturer says to use, otherwise you might run into problems. I once had a Honda Accord with an automatic transaxle. Honda recommended Honda ATFZ1. I used Dexron III and the transaxle started shuddering and shifting hard.

I flushed the Transaxle and replaced the fluid with the recommended Honda ATFZ1 and everything was smooth sailing after that. The transaxle shifted smoothly and properly.

I've just always used penzoil syncromesh with no problems, but that's good to know if I'm ever in a bind.
So have I, but it's absolutely not recommended. The NV-T350's supposedly use special paper lined synchros that require specific fluid. Synchromesh was designed to be used with all brass synchros and may or may not prematurely degrade the paper lined ones in the NV-T350.

My NV-T350 has 298k miles on original synchros. Doesn't grind, miss, or pop out of gear at all. I drive it daily about 150 miles. I have used nothing BUT the NV-T350 Chrysler approved trans fluid. I would gladly pay the $12-$20 a quart for the stuff.

ATF+4 is not a brand it's a type of fluid any auto parts store (or walmart) should have. Here is some links you missed/skipped/ignored :p

There are still a few dealers that have some NVT-350 fluid in stock but last time I bought some(about a year and a half ago) it was up to 18 a quart.
