I have a 99 mit. eclispe gs i need a new motor and i'd like to know which motor i can use besides the same motor... such as years...like the 1st gen. or newer... and how much i'd have to change... besides just the motor to make it bolt up. i'm really clueless about this motor stuff, but i need a new motor, mine is shot. if anyone can help me out i'd appreciate it.

Let me ask you something first....how much are you willing to spend?

If youre a normal person, then NO the only motor thats going to fit into you N/T is the good ole 420A motor....

Now, say you have $10,000 laying around and burning a whole in your pocket, and youre slightly mentally unbalanced with a penchant for pain....then yea you could fit a 4g63 in im sure....it just may take you a year, a lot of knowledge and proably a small team of cutom specialists There are NO MOTORS, besides the 420A, that will just "Bolt-Up" into our engine bay. If you want a 4g63, get a turbo car.

Honestly, if you have a little cash laying around you can get a fully built, bored, etc 420A shortblock that will be very easy and reliable to turbo or use nitrous on, and make a nice fast car you you. Maybe even consiter the 2.2L kit with lower compresion running about 10-15 psi on a stage 2 HRC kit :rocks:

are you having someone do this for you or are you doing it yourself? why is your motor shot?

judging by your post, i would just go with another 420a. if you are looking for performance, buy a howell long block. or if you dare, maybe the 2.4 swap. but putting a mitsu engine in a 2gnt, :nono: ... good luck on whichever you decide :thumb:

Wow, i just noticed the Wisemans tag on you Chris, when did that happen?
Oh, yea, and a belated Congrats :thumb:

haha thanks, it was about 2-3 weeks ago.

well i'm not exactly sure whats wrong with the motor... like i said... i am not the brightest when it comes to working on my car, i'm learning... but the car has a knock... my uncle said he thinks its a wrist ring or rocker arm...boyfriend said it might be a rod, but any way you look at it, when you turn the car on it knocks, and it gets louder when you drive and it sounds like its right under the valve cover when you're looking at the engine on the right side front.

well how does it run? if it runs fine, i dont think you are going to need a new engine. especially if its just a rocker arm.

if its just in the head its cheaper to get the head rebuilt...prob cost you round 500 bucks
+ labor to have the head rebuilt...atleast thats what it cost me...except i did all the labor- machine work. If its causing problems that is.

the amount of parts you would need are just too much. you would basically need to buy a 2g turbo and swap everything from the turbo car into the non turbo car but why would you do that? just sell your non turbo and buy the turbo of the same color and pretend you swapped it. for another 2 thousand you could have a mid 12 second street car. not bad eh?

You guys are really something if this person was a male you would have flammed them and told them to use the search... since it's a chick you all bow down and be as nice as you can.. you guys are really something

dood, it may be a double standard, but you expect guys to know a little bit about cars, but not too many girls are into cars, therefore you cant expect them to know much about them. and if you look, she posted her question on april 1st, and it says she registered april 2005, which leads me to believe she has never been here before. but back to my point, we expect doods to know a little bit about cars, but girls usually arent into cars therefore i dont expect them to know much about them.

and do we also expect doods to know how to spell Dudes? J/J

ill be honest..i didnt even look at her name to realize she was a girl. but who cares.....by the way us N/T guys arent as mean as the guys in the turbo forums, very short tempers.

Amen to that brother, I cringe everytime I see the "sell it and buy a turbo" post. I would absolutely LOVE to see a ton of N/T guys post "sell it and get a N/T" when a 4G63 guy whines when his crank goes for a walk

By the way, it's kinda nice to have some lady presence on the forum and I think it's awsome that she's interested in her car...Good on ya :thumb:

spelling it like doods just looks so much cooler and give you that home grown stoner feel :thumb: LOL

ok guys... i worked on my car last night, that really had nothing to do with the motor... but i found i had a MAJOR OIL LEAK BADDDD...!!!#$$%!!! in the supervision and much laughter from my boy.... i took off my front blitz bumper... and my headlights! it was exciting... all by myself. aren't you all so proud and busting a gut right now!?! next comes trying to fix my bumper... or at least trying... i mean the car doesn't work... so might as well try and fix everything i can right!? about the motor... now my mom's saying she's not going to help me pay to fix my car...d*mn moms... why say anything about it. Now i'll have to work double overtime.... still haven't found a motor though.

Working to pay for your own car is the way to do it, don't depend on parents, that just ain't cool. Maybe look into a new front bumper ....... not much of a fan of the Blitz here (Maybe that's just me though).

Where abouts is the oil leak coming from? could be something as easy as replacing a gasket or it could be quite serious. Are you 100% that you do need a new motor? rebuilds are quite a bit cheaper and if you have the time and space it's a great way to learn about how your car works...honestly your one up on me with taking off your bumper, I still haven't done that yet so congrats. I haven't recieved one penny from my parents (I'm 19 and old enough to work for my car myself) but knowing that your hard work paid for your baby and all of your parts is extremely satisfying. Good luck with your car :thumb:

i drive a 1g so there is almost no danger of crank walk. but for those 2g owners that have experienced it before im sure they will all agree when i say " its better to have been fast and lost than to have never been fast at at all"

btw... I think driving an import with an american engine is kind of lame. no offense.

1gb's with the 7 bolt motor can develop crank walk just as easily as a 2g with a 7 bolt motor. You have a 92 so unless your car was built before march 1992 you've got a 7bolt 4g63 and you too can be a victim of your crank taking a walk. It's the 1ga's and the early 1gb's that have the 6 bolt motor. I also think that most people would agree that having a slower car that always works is better than having a fast car that is always broken, well at least I would

btw... I think driving a domestic with a japanese engine is kinda lame as well....apparrantly you have forgotton that all DSM's were made in america, no offense
