Hi,
I bought a second hand W4A33 auto gearbox and are upgrading it with Kiggly clutches and Translab HP shift kit. I have removed valve body and seperated it. Cleaned all with brakes cleaner. Had no problems removing valves, unless the shift Control valve (# 13 in Picture below) in the upper valve body. Strange thing is that it moves freely by it own weight just by tilting the valve body, but it stops just about 2 mm before hitting the Valve Stop B (located upper right in Translab instructions) I have removed everything else, but I am not able to push the Control valve out of the valve body...
I believe I could use some force and punch it out, but feel something isnt right. This is my first auto repair/upgrade so have no experience with it... No one else here locally to ask either...
Found a place in the instructions that a punch with a hammer could solve sticky valves, but mine moves freely until 2 mm from Valve Stop B (#7 in Picture below)...
Thanks

Have you pulled the valve stop out and it is sticky just before it comes out??? I have put the same kit in a 97 Spyder, no problems.
Be sure that when you put the filter on that you have the correct length bolts to hold it on. My son's filter DIDN'T come with new bolts and the originals were to long, which punched a hole in the valve body veins so be aware of that for sure. It was a WIX filter, and was a revised version.

Yes the valve stop is out. It stops just like hitting a wall...

I'll ask the obvious, did you soak the sticky valve in transmission fluid before you tried to install it. Youre not just trying to slap it in there dry correct
I Just removed valvebody from gearbox some days ago, and there was oil in gearbox. I am not trying to slap it in, I am trying to get it out so I can clean it really good.

Do you feel any burrs in the bore?? If so, take a piece of emery cloth to it gently.

Hard to say as the valve is still inside... Maybe I should try to tap it gently from other side with a hammer? Or just smack the valve body with a hammer and a plate? I dont see how to get it out...

That's pretty drastic. Can you not feel the inside, even if it isn't very deep. It could be a snag right where the valve is used to moving back and forth. It should slide out, no roll pins in the way either? I can't remember if the F4A33 had any or not, that is the transmission that I put a kit into but it has been a couple years ago.

I got the valve out with a light tap with a hammer and dowel from the other side. I can not see anything in the bore causing this. Think I will try an emery cloth on the piston using a drill to spin the valve. Can not see what to use in the bore instead of polishing the valve. Any suggestions?

If it were me, I would do it by hand so you don't take too much off of it. Test fit and polish more if needed.

Some minutes with emery cloth and the valve moves freely by its own weight:)

Thanks:)

GREAT!!!!!
Good job. Finish her up, pay attention and you will be golden.

Yes I will:) Should I do this with the other valves as well since I have all of them out? They move freely as they are now...

If they move free, leave them alone. If ANY snags at all, just lightly touch them, then lube em and put em back in. Very happy for you! :thumb:
