Can we get the ball rolling in a drag version. I just want to shed some pounds. I've put myself on a diet just to try to drop some tenths........(lord help me). When it comes to autocross there's to many options people want. There will never be something everyone will agree on.

^Sorry I didn't think to ask you about this earlier about seeing some of your other work and offerings on the link forums.

But I'm glad you are here.

I could look at it. I have in-house CNC capabilities and would have no problems doing it if the interest existed.

I think the demand is there. Just getting people to agree on everything is where the problem is. But if you want to start something I'm extremely interested and if you would need a deposit to get the ball rolling. Id be in for that as well

OK everyone. If we can get a design going, I now work at an aerospace tube manufacturer with all state of the art bending, 5 axis milling machines, orbital welders, aerospace tubing, the works. If we can get something in UG, and a group of folks together with money up front, I'm sure we can get something going.

This is at least worth getting a design down on paper and deciding if the potential cost is at least feasible.

Sounds interesting. For discussion sake, here's a link to a shop that made one before. Mitsubishi Ecliplse tubular K member

That is the one he made for my car. Im close personal friends with him. Paul Im pretty sure got the idea of that to make the front bar since we made the k member and the front bar, and I told Paul the front bar might have a problem clearing the lower radiator outlet with the factory radiator. Mine has a little kink bend it it to keep it clear.

I have had this K member in my car for 3 years now. No issues, and it is street driven A LOT. The evo is actually dogbox racings evo, I got my buddy that job since Im good friends with Alex for obvious reasons LOL.

I recently converted to auto, and swapped out all my stuff to a new car. The K member is in perfect shape, and bolted right in the other car.

Here is a post when It first got done, I was trying to get some intrest in it, but there is so many nay sayers its rediculous.

I sent him an email and he said he no longer has the jig to make another k member :(.

When I get some extra money I will be building my own for my 1G. Not sure when that will be though. I might incorporate a different way to mount the control arms (new tubular arms) to simplify it instead of having to build the rear part of the control arm like stock (where it mounts).

If you could get BMR to make them for $500 I would definately buy one. This of course is for a 2g though. The one thing I ask is that it has mounting points for the factory sway bar and lets you keep the power steering. For those of you worried about there being too many options for someone to bother with these: Taken from BMR's site "BMR also answers your requests with specialized versions of our K-members. We make K-members for manual rack conversions, lowered motor mounts for more supercharger clearance, conversion K-members for traditional Windsor motor transplants, etc."

I just talked to him, and he would be willing to make some. I will be pulling it out of my car very soon since wintertime is upon us and I got some stuff I wanna clean up under there.

So if your interested. give me a pm

Unfortunately, this is what always seems to happen with fabbed parts like this. We'll get a guy that says he'll do it and then it never happens. If there were money in fabbing parts for this community there would have been someone building these long ago. Unfortunately, the trend you see happening more is all the good fabricators moving on to other markets where more people tend to spend money on quality fabrication.

I thought vassil was going to pull it off too, since his work with the front curved cross member turned out so nice. His mock up k member looked great too.

What ever happened to him? I dont see his freelancer page anymore either.

What kind of price would some one pay for these? I know a guy that builds race car chassis's that might be interested in building them.

It probably wouldn't really sell because there wouldn't be a noticeable difference. My k member is broke I was going to have my buddy build one and in the process make a jig.

I think vassils piece was going to be some 40lbs lighter. Im sure it would be much stiffer as well.

I've welded in the oil field for five years before i decided to go back to school and finish my degree. Anyway im going to be attempting my own this winter. I trust my welds, but im sure the design will change 100 times before its finished. Even then i doubt i would sell someone a piece as crucial as that.

Do you have a time table on your k member? So the jig is already being set up? Id love to see a design finished through. Id probably buy a nice finished piece then attempt it myself.

Ready to set it up only one problem. The car I am taking the stock k member from has locking lugs and no key. Next Thursday the match truck will be by and I can get a tool to take them off.

Oops I typed matco dam iPhone changed it.

Im very interested as well. PM sent.

We made about 10 of these (about three of them went on to Galant VR-4's) and the cost to manufacture them was just to high for the demand so we stopped selling them. Our cost for the drag only design we had from the fabricator got to be about $850-900 shipped. These were the parts that it included: steering rack brackets to attach tubular chromoly k-member to stock rack, aluminum control arms, tubular chromoly K-member, front tubular chromoly cross member bar, chromoly solid motor mount, chromoly solid tranny mount. All those parts weighed 42.6 lbs. Not sure what stock weighed. Pretty sure it was about a 50lb weight savings. The original car used to create the jig still has the first one installed and runs high 10's and has seen ALOT of street driving on our WI pot hole ridden roads.

Any pictures of the ones you guys have done? Also are you saying you'll still make them for that $900 price tag?

There are pictures here on the forum. No, I was saying that the demand for a tubular k-member doesn't match the cost. This is why there is no market.
