What's up everyone. Trying to make my 2g into a track car. I know essentials are breaks and cooling. Anything else I need? And what should be done first? It's not a dedicated track car. It will be for those days when buddies get together and just drive. Point in right direction will greatly be appreciated.

Yes my feeling was that the XPs are not good for daily driving just for the track. So it would be a set of XPs for track duty along with separate 2 piece rotors for track duty as well.
They make noise but ive dailyed them on the roads! I dont mind them my self the xp8 dont make as much noise compared to the 10's though LOL

Yeah, they help. I have my oil cooler and PS cooler inbetween the rad and intercooler. I have a lot of ducting going together over the off season. When I was at NJMP in August, Ambient temps were over 95°, and the car never got over 210-215°. Just double check with the group you're running with about the helmet. It would suck to get to the track after all the money and getting there, only to be turned away for an illegal helmet.
Any videos of your car at NJMP and how did it do? I have done my ducting FMIC to radiator ,dual cutouts on the front bumper and RRE hood scoop. Car runs cool in the 190s sometimes in the 180s when hot and humid outside.NJMP is where I want to run my car starting this Spring.
Friend of mines runs his Evo X there regularly says he loves it. I hope to do Pocono as well.

Yeah. I love that facility. I didn't do lightning. Just thunderbolt. Fantastic track. Turn two, blind crest, apex right at the crest. Gotta have faith. The group I run with is running there in August. You should try and make it.

I certainly plan on being there. It's a serious track nice long stretches where you can open her up. Would be nice if we can get a group of DSM guys who are into tracking there car to go. Quite a few show up at MetLife stadium I'm surprised I have not seen you there.

Yeah, I'm not much one for autoX. I'd do it, bit my cars not really setup for that. I'd need a smaller turbo to actually have any fun.

That's a lot of info!! Well I'm getting car today and found a part I need and not to sure what it is. I replaced the brake booster and brakes suck. The hose is fine. My buddy bypassed it to see what's wrong and it seems the brake booster isn't doing it job. This is part I'm looking for. Anyone know what it is or what it's called. Anyone know what that called

I figured as much as I have not partipated as yet for fear that this 63mm turbo will fall on its face. May still give it a shot plus there have been quite a few dsms there. Will stay in touch got your pm.

I will put a word in. If doing track days start with a close to stock car. Learn the limits there. I track a miata about 3 times a year. Its a street class autox car. So it has a set of koni shocks on the stock springs, a front sway bar, and an axle back. I also do instructing and for first timers this is my list to them.

- Brakes. Get some pads. I run the xp10/xp8. Get some dedicated rotors. Advance, autozone are fine. Skip the drilled or slotted. For me my last rotors were $15 each. Rolling joke in spec e30 is if you spent more than $15 you spent to much. I swap rotors and pads out. I have a street set and a track set. Big brakes are nice but again I am still on stock calipers on the miata. Yes a lighter car but a good pad will take the heat vs a bigger caliper with a junk pad.
- Brake Fluid. Get something high temp. I use Ate. Never had an issue with it. Many choices out there.
- Tires. Get a summer tire of some sort. The 200tw market is growing. For a new guy something like the maxxis vr-1 or Dunlop z2 are a good choice. Long wear with good feedback. Also get some decent wheels. No cheap knockoffs. You have evo wheels which is fine. Heck my track set on the miata are factory saturn 15x6. Do they look good? No but they are strong and if need be will take a hit if they needed to.
- Seat time. No joke this is very important. Get some track time. The more the better. Also don't be afraid to get instruction.

After a few events you will start to find what the car needs. Suspension is where to move to next. You will find getting the car handling better is a lot more fun than a car with big power, no brakes. I have caught way faster cars in my 110hp car. Also with being a turbo car you need to watch cooling. There is a reason I have stayed NA. My car will do lap after lap in 100 degree days on the stock radiator with no problems.

Before getting on track do an inspection on the car. Ball joints, tie rods, etc all this stuff can fail under high loads. I have seen it. So do a good inspection.

If you have any questions ask on here or send me a pm. Its a ton of fun.

My last track day at roebling road. Loads of fun. First few laps I was following my student that I had signed off.

Exactly right^^^ grow the car with your experience. And try and get as much seat time in any aspect you can. I do as many kart events a year as I can in between track days. Seat time/experience is the most important part to having a good track day/weekend. The nut and bolting of the car is extremely important. I'll go over the car in the weeks and days before the event. And when I unload at the track I go over it again twice at least. I used to crew chief for an SCCA team, so I have my routines prior and at the track. But most importantly, have fun. Listen to people that are willing to give you insight. Don't get offended if someone tells you you're doing something wrong. Listen to their advice. Learn. Improve. Road racing is so much fun and you meet really awesome people. Geez.....I really need the season to start up again LOL

I'm hoping to go soon to track. Maybe starting the year. Just found out I might have some
Issues with car so just need to get car running first before I can do much. And I will definitely track to get used to car and go from there. And any advice given is greatly appreciated. Especially since I'm still new to the DSM/boosting world so anything is better than nothing. I guess this question is more on personal choice but should I drive car to track or should i tow it there?

That is a question only you can decide. Way out the options, but I would think nearly everyone would tow the vehicle to the event than drive it there if they had the funds/choice.

Yeah. I'm a huge advocate for towing the car to track. You never know what's gonna happen. First time out, I blew a hole in my transmission case after three teeth sheared off fourth gear. If I hadn't trailered it, it would have been a VERY expensive flatbed tow from Lime Rock. Uhaul is fairly priced for a truck and trailer.

I have access to two trucks but no trailer. I have a tire trailer on my miata. Makes taking enough tools and tires there easy. I would like to step up to a tow rig. You never know at the track. Can always blow an engine or transmission. There is always the risk of crashing. So my word is be ready to write the car off. Insurance will not cover you. My car is like that. If I really f*** up its. $1000 for a roller with a title and start swapping stuff over. A basic truck and trailer could run 5k. For that you would get a older gas truck and a trailer. One day I will have that but for now I just drive there. Granted I also have a lemons car so that will also be at the track. I have the title to that but we will be towing it. Granted the title is there so we can street drive it. Espically with our custom transmission swap.

Just picked up the tow truck a couple weeks ago. Getting a trailer in the next couple months, or renting a U-Haul trailer until I have get a new one.

Not bad. Throw a good transmission cooler on it and some hps towing pads and you are good. Might as well buy a trailer. Down here you can get them in the $1800 range. Figure two days with U-haul is $70 a day. That adds up quick.

Yeah. Trailers next on the list. This truck has a trailer brake and trailer package already. Definitely gonna upgrade the pads. Might convert to rear disk as well. I did the U-Haul for my event. Way to expensive for a weekend.

No need for read disc. The drums are fine. I have been towing with a 99 Suburban for the last few years. Its my parents truck but I can borrow it if I need it. We run the hawks LTS. Tho they could be the super duty. Either way when I first towed with some garbage pads I almost ran a stop sign coming down a hill. With these hawks pads the truck stops much better and you can tell a major difference while fully loaded. Plus 40k so far on a set and they are at about 50%. Figure another 20-30k of use and they can be swapped for a new set.

Cool. I'll look into that. Way cheaper than the disc conversion LOL.
