Hi everyone

I'm figuring out my shopping list for redoing the timing belt and associated components, but I've been unable to find a tensioner for my 1994 Talon TSI AWD. From looking around online, it seems like it's been discontinued for a few years and I can't find any online shops that still have the OEM part in stock.

Seeing as it's a 7 bolt engine, is there a way I could adapt it to work with a tensioner from a 2G? I saw a thread on the topic here, but it didn't yield any concrete information. I'm leaning towards gambling on a tensioner from rockauto since it doesn't look like there's any other options besides reusing the current tensioner or opting to swap the engine to a 6 bolt/late 7 bolt for more support (not feasible right now).

Thanks for looking. Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! I compared some images between the 92.5-94 and early 95 tensioners and they're similar, but ultimately too different. Maybe I'll have some luck posting in the classifieds.

Not quite sure as I do not think I have the late 1G unit in hand but the later 1G timing covers changed and the length of the mounting may have done so for the recess on the tensioner. Why they did that no idea. Might be as they were changing to the 7 bolt they realised something so the part needed more room for the cover.

We know the 2G early can use a later tensioner as those are an issue to get ahold of and have been for some time.

The point is the tensioner arm.
The 2g 7 bolt tensioner must be used with the longer 2g arm and 2g tensioner pulley. But the 2g tensioner arm is longer and different shape from the 1g's. So the 2g arm will interfere with some of water pump bolt and perhaps the bottom of 1g water pump, so it will require some work to grind/trim the arm itself or some bolt behind the arm to clear the interference. (or change the bolt with low profile one) I guess there is a way to make it work but I can't be 100% sure until I do it myself.
This is what I have been meaning to try next time when I remove the timing belt on my 2g (1g 7 bolt engine), once I try this and I will update.

If this doesn't work well, simply using an aftermarket tensioner would be the only option once all new old stock 1g 7 bolt tensioner is gone.
