Hey Guys,

Need a little help. The throttle stuck on me today 1 light before my driveway. When I took off from the light the throttle stuck and I noticed going into second the rpms didn't come back down. I pushed in the clutch and the rpms went up to 5000. I got over to the side of the road and was able to push the throttle back and get it down to idle.

Here is my worry... The engine has 1200 miles on it. The car was at that rpm for 15 seconds MAX. :ohdamn:

Do you guys think it could have spun a bearing? I got it home and it was fine driving and running. I opened the oil cap and I can smell some gas in the valve cover. I wont have time till after the 3 day weekend to look at the car (like drain oil, pull the pan) Guess I'm just looking for opinions.

Let me know what ya think guys! :thumb:

you might check where the cable runs from the throttle body to the housing area, mine needed WD40 so it would stop sticking.

Why would you think you spun a bearing? Your motor should have been broken in on the first few hundred miles. I was boosting 20psi after 150 miles and breaking in I was doing about 15psi so I wouldn't sweat a high idle even if we have 2 different engines, it still applies.

I'm sure you've came across this when you were looking up how to break in a motor?

My thoughts exactly.. well without the actual boosting experience that is.

You engine will be fine.

Engine break in really has nothing to do with the bottom end. It's mostly getting the rings to seat properly. There are many theories about engine break in that seem to get people riled up, so I won't go there. But your bearings are FINE :thumb:

The only reason you would have bearing problem during break in is if your builder didn't build it to the right specs. And/or you didn't change oil often during the first coupld thousand miles. Seating the rings scrapes off fine metal particle off the cylinder walls and make their way into the oil along with SOME residual machineing material that didn't get cleaned off before assembly.

Don't lose hair of it man :p

Sorry to thread jack but mine just stuck on me when I was pulling into my drive way the other day, should I just spray some wd40 on the plate where the cable connects to the tb?

Sent From My Sidekick 4g, Because I can.

thanks guys and yes I read that link alot of times. I was just worried last night is all. I got a chance this morning to take the pan off and stuff and everything looked great no shavings or anything. I have another block I am going to build up to boost so I wasn't too too worried.

Doubleot- my throttle stuck ### I have the jeep throttle body and I thought I fixed the sticking issue but apparently not. WD40 cant hurt though...

And T I would only have myself to blame because I built it LOL.

Also to add in, if you were to have a bearing issue, it would have shown up within the first hundred miles if not the first few.

As for the plate sticking, I would try to recreate the issue (with the car off) to see where it is binding up. It could just be the spring getting corroded or it could be some gunk on the plate that is catching the wall. Recreating it will allow you to track what the potential issue is so you can fix it.

OP, when yours stuck, did it only happen that one time randomly or has it happened before? I'm assuming it's happening again? What did you check? Same for you Doubledot.

Check to make sure that the plastic sheath inside the cable hasn't slid out and around the end of the cable. I've seen this a few times. Some times the sheath can also get torn in side and cause the cable to stick inside the tube also. I would un hook the cable from the throttle body and see if it still slides in and out smooth.

this happened to me a few years ago, my cruise cable split and caused my throttle to stick, so dont forget to check the cruise cable too.
