That's a pretty good jump in time. Those 60' can go lower. The mph is still good for 12s. Any plans to lighten it up?

Thanks! I know it will do 12's as is (and I'm hoping to prove that next Friday). Like I said, I still bogged the launch on that 13.1 so a clean launch, getting off the clutch faster, and more boost in 2nd gear... it should be in the 12's easy.

I've removed the A/C, emissions, cruise, rear wiper, and sound deadener from the back seat and trunk area. I plan to keep all of the interior. I'm thinking about cutting the hood bracing out since carbon fiber is so expensive. I just got a manual steering rack from the junkyard yesterday, but I haven't decided if I'm going to use it or not as I also autox and street drive it.

Congrats again Nate! I knew it had 13's and even 12's in it! Awesome job not only reaching your goal but blowing it out of the water. Hit a 12 yet this year and you'll be on your way even further! But don't look too far ahead, appreciate what you've accomplished so far!

Very nice. Amazing what a littletraction does for you. hope you get it into the 12s next time out.

Thanks both of you guys!

Please keep the PS! I converted both of my DSM's to manual and it's not ideal for autox or any slow speed backroad type driving. The PS gives you the ability to flick the wheel lock to lock when needed. Manual steering makes it much more difficult to catch the back end when it steps out.

BTW nice runs! That's gotta feel good to drop a full second off your time! :hellyeah:

Yeah, that's what I've been reading lately.

Thanks! It felt amazing! My first 13 second pass ever was a 13.3 right after running a 14.5. Huge improvement!

Still haven't got your goal of 13s on street tires though! :tease:

Good job Nate! :thumb:

Btw, do you think the slicks are the reason you lost 3 mph?
Thanks!

That was a dumb goal. :ohdamn: But these Hoosiers are DOT approved :aha:

No, I don't think so at all. That 113 MPH pass was back in May. When I went to the track last month my best MPH was 109 and that was on street tires.

New personal best for me! I went from a 14.1 @ 113 to a 13.1 @ 110 with the addition of Hoosier DOT drag radials. You can read more here and see the time slip data and the video: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/dsm-build-journals/418713-9-eclipse-n-t-turbo-fwd-street-drag-autox.html#post152785687. Stock unported 14b, FWD, full interior (even the jack).

Going to a manual rack for weight reasons really is a waste. You go from a 15.8:1 ratio to about 26:1. Just pull the pump/pulley/bracket/belt and run a loop from the feed to the return and keep the rack full of fluid. Still hard to turn from a standstill, but once up to speed it's not bad at all.

My main reason for wanting the rack wasn't weight savings, it was cleaning up the bay. Everything (A/C, cruise, emissions, fusebox) is gone except for the power steering system. I'd like like to pop the hood and only see the engine sitting there. But oh well, if it will hurt me in autox its not a big deal, I'll keep the PS. I want my car to be well balanced more then anything. Street, drag, and autox.

Might be a little expensive, but why not try to get some brackets to move the p/s pump and the reservoir to the back side of the motor where the a/c compressor was? You will lose the "cooler" that flows the fluid to the front of the car, but you can shorten the lines and clean up the front side of the engine and move the reservoir to the firewall. That would clean it up a lot. Then just measure and get a belt to fit in whatever specific length you need. Again, might be a little pricey, but you could possibly take care of both situtations with cleaning the engine bay up and keeping power steering. Just an idea.

There is quiet a difference between the 'drivability' of a manual rack and a power one with just the res/pump pulled. If its driven on the street, do yourself a favor and grab one. As mentioned before though the weights rack vs rack alone however are rather close..

I don't have a problem with a de-powered power rack driving in the city. You get used to it. Besides, I don't think I could stand the steering ratio of the manual rack. I also like the feeling of the manual steering.

However, since you do autocross, I would maybe then think about an electric steering pump.

approx. 3 lbs.

...and adding a steering quickener as 15.8:1 is still lazy by comparison to say an Evo 8 at 13.0:1

I was just looking at the 1/4 mile times list, sorted by 14b, and I dropped from number 41 to 22 with that pass. I have the slowest 60' on the whole first page and the highest MPH up until the #6 slot which was a 12.2 run. I still have a lot of improvements to make! I can't wait for Friday!!!

Sure you get use to it. I had one in a bunch of my DSMS until I finally hopped in a buddies Laser and moved it so we could pull another car into the shop and OMG! It was HEAVEN! LOL. I figured it wouldn't be that big of a difference but it sure makes parking a breeeze or taking U turns or anything else involving turning from a stop or near stopped. :thumb:

12s are in the bag. I wish we had a track close to run pretty much all year. At least it gives me time to get the rest the parts I need to get the car back up and running. So far just asking around I acquired four good 14b turbos. I like when people say "here I don't need it this, I'll never use it". Sucks that all the turbos I am finding are the 1010 cartridges. Found one 1400 and that's probably what I'll start on. Just need to find a 7cm housing, fp manifold, and a set of cams.

Yeah, it's not the best track (they are making improvements though), but its close and its open 11 months out of the year. I'll be swapping to a ported 7cm housing this winter too (and porting the 2g exhaust manifold, and installing a MAP o2 housing with a Tial 38 mm wastegate). I'm planning on staying with the stock cams. I'm not convinced bigger cams help that much with the 14b.

Joe bucci's car made a difference adding cams. He ran the crower 313 and then some other cam. I only plan on sticking to a 264 cam. Anything bigger I think is gonna hurt 1/4 mike times. I've been looking at regrinds since there cheap unless I can find a good deal on some hks 264s or around that size used. Most people jump to 272s so what I'm looking for might be hard to find. My hoods got a cutout in it from the last setup I had in the car. So I'll be running a tightly shimmed wastegate and have it and the exhaust come out of the hood.

Sorry to bump you back a spot, but I just updated my info with the 14b times (I still had my S258 numbers in my profile). Looking at the 14b list, I was actually the driver in my friend's car on the #20 time, too. :)

Good luck next time out, it should easily have 12s in it. I'm hoping to get back to the track on Black Friday (Atco's doing an all day test and tune, a bunch of locals are heading down). If I can get the new springs installed before then, I'm hoping to dip into the 11s with the car.

I've heard a lot of good things about FFWD DKS regrinds. They carry a 264/272 combo. Also I believe you can get them directly from Delta Cams.

Haha, no thats good! I know I'm not really the 20 somethingest fastest 14b, I was just making a comparison. I'm not yet in the competitive 14b region, but I'm headed that way! Thanks and good luck at Atco!

Hold tight on the cams, I'm in the process of trying something out that may be a cheap alternative that fits the 14b perfectly. ;)

I was gonna go straight through delta. I have a buddy that works at a machine shop that reminded me about the delta cams. Should be at a good price to. If I dont find a good enough deal I do have the biggest cam that came in the 1G/2G engines. I can run those to get by.

What cam would that be steve? I might be interested. Is it the EVO cam swap? I have two sets of these waiting to be tested out. I just havent had the time to do it.

I believe he tried the FP1X first, and didn't gain anything, then the Crowers. He was also making the switch to the Haltech and water/air around the same time though, so I don't know exactly how much of his gain can be attributed to the cams alone.

Yes, it's OEM EVO VIII cams. I've already got them degreed, I just need to have my machine shop notch the intake cam for the CAS and I'll be ready to drop them in. Hopefully, I'll have time to do some dyno testing as well as track.

I personally think the cams will make a difference once the little 14B is at full song. But not a major cam is required.

Are you running the evo intake cam on the exhaust side and vise versa? They didnt look to be to far off when you first drop them in.
