td04h vs td05h, difference

No, the TD04 TD04hl and Td05 are turbine wheels... any Compressor wheel can be on them but from the factory as a general rule the Tdo4 has a 13g compressor wheel the Tdo4hl has a 13g wheel and a tdo5 could have a few different wheels but stock from the factory our cars came with 14b all thou the 16g and 20g wheels can be put on easily with a different backing plate.

I have a tdo5h turbo, is this a 14b or a 16g? I thought a 14b was a td04h......

Just look at the compressor wheel if the fins are level with each other then it's a 14b if the fins are offset and staggered then its a 16g that's what the B and G denote

As a general rule the TD04 has a 13G compressor wheel, the TD04HL has a 15G compressor, and a TD05H turbo could have a few different compressor wheels ranging from a 14B to a 20G.

From the factory, the TD05H turbos found on manual 1G's were all 14B's but could be upgraded by machining / replacing the compressor cover and enlarging the wheel groove in the backplate.
Fixed.

The tdo4hl could have many different wheels ranging for 13g 15g 16t 18t 19t. just depends on application, as far as dsm's are concerned every Tdo4hl I've seen has had a 13g wheel.

A Volvo Would have 15g wheel all though also most likely it would have a integrated Bov in the compressor cover.

As far as the tdo4 being a 13g or 13b you may have me their. But, Almost everyone I know refers to the stock Auto's turbo as a 13b
But, Honestly I can't remember the last time I looked at a compressor wheel on a auto 1g that was a a tdo4...

Although the last 1g auto I looked at had a Td04hl-13b That was replaced buy the dealer in 96 with what I believe was stock on EDM 2g's ... Someone please correct me if I'm wrong there...but I do beleave that's one reason why their is so many tdo4hl's on auto 1g's unless it was some kind of option?

The 13G wheel is used on all TD04/H/HL DSM applications which came from the factory with the part number beginning in 49177:

However, you can see in this photo displaying the TD04HL used on automatic Mitsu RVR's that the compressor wheel is not the same as the 13G....look how the leading edge of the compressor's major blade appears "straighter" than the 13G shown above:

This is not a trait of a "G" series wheel, so I don't believe this would be a 15G compressor....it's possibly a 13T.

I still don't know why so many compressor variants are offered for such a small turbo. :idontknow:

Do you have measurements of the second wheel?

The Car I was referring to before I actually have a pic of the compressor wheel you can't see in the pic the Tdo4hl on the cover but the Compressor wheel is clearly the same as the first pic you posted

I know the Compressor wheel specs for the 13g wheel are

Inducer Diameter
1.580"
Exducer Diameter
2.000"
Trim
62

The TD04hl turbine wheel is much larger then the TD04 almost the same size as the Td05h only 0.13" & 0.15" smaller between the exducer & inducer and is the same trim 77
I'm guessing thats why you find some many more variations?

Edit I walked back to my computer after about an hour or two and I guess you edited your post?:idontknow:

Just to provide some more info. The us 4g63 auto's come with a 13g td04. The housings that are labeled td04hl are mis labeled, and still have the regular td04 turbine. People in the 3s community have been upgrading to auto dsm turbo's for a long time, by putting a 3s turbine housing on them. All of the 13g turbo's from 1g auto's work, because they have a regular td04 turbine, no matter what the compressor housing says. I have converted many of these first hand so i know. The jdm auto cars come with the 13t compressor.

Unfortunately not- I've never had a 13T compressor in my personal possession.

Not sure what you mean by this- I didn't edit anything. If I had edited beyond the first few minutes (well before your response some 2-1/2 hours later), you would've seen a message at the bottom showing that the post had been edited along with the time it was edited like post #4 where I added the info about the TD05H turbos.
