Hi I want to replace my stock T25 but looking for something bolt on I heard the T28 but wanted to make sure I get the right one

Depends on your goals. What do you want out of the car? Think cost, power, amount of work you want to do (and/or pay for)...

The more boost you decide to push, the more you'll have to upgrade. Keeping it stock or close to stock will keep your costs down.

The car is completely stock and I want to keep it like that as much as I can the changes I’m making are minor, injen ram air , pipping to and from stock Intercooler and just a turbo replacement cause it’s been there for 26 years

I would get a 16g. Easy to find and they make complete install kits and metal piping kits for the side mount. Plus it gives you room to grow.

Check the classifieds and DSM pages on Facebook. People are always selling 16g turbos in good condition or rebuilt for a few hundred.

If you don’t care about keeping it much more than stock then just don’t waste the money. A t28 or 16g isn’t going to make a big difference running it where the stock ecu and fuel system would be happy without upgrading, age by itself isn’t going to cause enough issues to replace the turbo. If there’s no in and out play, no excessive side to side play, it’s not smoking, no chipped or damaged blades on either wheel, etc then keep it and use it. No one has offered the bolt on t28 new in some time so even if you went with one of those and got it to maintain wastegate pressure you’re still bolting on a 15+ year old used turbo no matter how you look at it. A 16g is great and all but then you’re looking at the install stuff and if you don’t plan to upgrade the fuel system and ecu you’ll be doing a bunch of extra work to get it to maintain low boost and not creep, absolutely pointless in the year 2024. If you’re really worried about the t25 failing nice ones pop up for sale here, low miles or not I wouldn’t pay the $300 some dingle berry was asking for one on the classifieds here with alleged “low miles”, it’s a used t25 no matter how you look at it it’s worth 50 bucks to 100 bucks on a hood a day, but good used ones are out there to buy for a spare.

You can still buy the bolt-on t28 from ExtremePSI brand new in the package if that's what you're looking for.

Did not know that! Last I knew no one was left selling them, either way I know they want $1k for a brand new 16g which is fair for what it is but still pointless when Justin Whitesell can build one better than new for half of that. Don’t know if he’ll even mess with the t28 or has any cores but if the OP is set on one that’d be the first place to look.
