My setup is basically a 14b at 19psi max, usually about 16psi (yes I have fuel mods and a pocketlogger) I don't really plan on a 16g anytime soon, I might port my 14b tho. I want a better intercooler though, but I'm wondering what would be best for my setup. I also have full 3" exhaust, intake, and a few minor things.

The side mount would be nice for the stock look, but if it isn't going to be a significant difference, then I won't bother. It would also be nice to not have to re-route a bunch of pipe and modify my bumper, etc.

The SRT4 looks like it would fit my bumper really well, would be better than the supra side mount, and I can get one right now for under $50.

The EVO 8 is the biggest of the 3, so probably the best, but I don't like that its so square, and it might almost be overkill for my setup. But its more than double the price of a SRT4 fmic too....and looks like it'd be harder to fit into my bumper.

Opinions wanted!!!! Thanks

SRT-4 is a pile of crap. I know from experience, and anyone who says different probably hasn't dealt with them. The extra cooling is not worth the pressure drop. They are extruded tube, thin, and very long with a small flow area, not a good idea for power making.

People seem to like the supra one. If you can get some nice end tanks on there, I think it could be a good unit.

EVO8's are nice and big, but for $100 you can get a much nicer ebay unit that will support a ton of power, especially since any route you'll be going, your going to be making your own pipes.

If you can get ones that are arranged with lots of vertical tubes that will fit, look into that

much more flow area per unit of core area.

It's possible to go too large, but I've never experienced any extra lag, it actually felt like it spooled up sooner. Your mileage may vary.

Good luck, and take pictures when you're done!

Thanks for posting up my article. :) Obviously, I would opt for the Supra SMIC. Too bad the Chris Wilson SMIC isn't readily available for us (or, more appropriately, a certain version of it).

Do a little reading on end tank design, and then have then fabricated to your liking. I'll be sticking with mine "till death do us part." ;)

Hmmm, isn't location is as important as size and flow? I say go w/ an evo fmic that has the inlet/outlet setup more for frontmount orientation. . . or mount a supra smic up front:D .

This is not the right place in this forum to hawk your junk.

Additionally, at the $100 mark, you can get really really nice ebay FMIC's that will outperform all of the above listed IC's.

My vote goes for Supra SMIC. I managed to find one locally for about 100 bucks, and it was pretty straight forward to install. Look up my tech article. Looks totally stock too, no pesky FMIC giving anything away.

Ok. So I think I've decided to go with one of those new Ebay ones that tkelly mentioned. Now A piping kit is a little over $100 on Ebay, but that means I'll have to get a new BOV setup, right? My 1g BOV is welded on to the pipe (I didn't do it). Well, would it be bad for that one piece of pipe to be a little smaller than the rest of the piping? I just measured my BOV pipe, and it is 2". The intercoolers I'm looking at would require 2.75" or 3" piping.

If I do replace my BOV, what is a good one to get? I always thought that all aftermarket BOVs vented to the atmosphere, are there good ones that don't?

Thank you so much for your answers so far!!!

I'd go with something that matches your current MAF sensor size. I didn't notice anything listed for you so I'd assume the stock 2g. If you do go with a larger diameter and fit in smaller sections *bov or maf* you'd just be creating bottlenecks in the charge piping. One thing about the charge piping from ebay... You may need to cut the pipes to fit properly.

Most bov companies sell recirculation kits but a majority are all atmospheric.

I don't know about that intercooler, but I would definitely think twice about that piping kit you linked. The pipes aren't beaded and those worm gear clamps are almost worthless. I bought a nice 2.75" piping kit from cxracing on ebay, all pipes have rolled edges and came with t-bolt clamps.

you can cheap bastard roll the pipes with a set of pliers, or get a shop to put a few beads on the end, get a shop to roll the ends, or actually get pipes with rolled edges. With aluminum, the best way is probably to have them pre-rolled.

T clamps are nice. All I know is that I hate using the flathead screwdriver to get worm ones off.

I can't say for sure that the smaller ebay units function better than any of the stock ones you've looked at as I've never seen or talked to anyone with them. If you can find someone, and they like it, or you get it and you like it, be sure to post about it.

It's difficult to pipe a crossflow FMIC on a 1G because the engine sits much closer to the rad than on a 2G. Most 1G owners opt for a FMIC core with rear-facing outlets to ease installation and have a much cleaner look when finished.

I wish you the best of luck.

With outlets facing out to the sides instead of straight back it will most likely require you to lose the fog lights, but maybe mine is a big different that the one you chose. When you say the bov is welded do you mean the flange is welded to the pipe of the actual bov. Also, if the bov can't be saved from your pipe plenty of aftermarket bov's can be recirculated. Alot of people favorite is the discontinued Greddy Type S or the New RS.

Well, I measured my bumper and stuff, and the intercooler isn't that long so I think I might be able to keep the foglights, I hope...I couldn't find one with the rear outlets, so I'll have to make this work.

The BOV itself is welded to a piece of pipe, ghetto style, LOL.

Just a follow-up:

Yes, there's no question that the old real estate adage applies here. However, redirecting air is easier to fabricate than to add custom IC pipes. Plus, an SMIC in front of the radiator looks out-of-place and ugly IMHO. Eric agrees with me in this thread.

Yea. I would prefer an evo FMIC over a supra sidemount up front in any circumstance. . . I would prefer a FMIC over a sidemount in any circumstance, too;) .

Custom piping is no easy thing to do. But w/ enough clamps and couplers anything is possible :D .

Update: Intercooler installed!!!! The piping kit that I bought ended up having enough pipe left over to practically do another car. It looks and fit great! And the best thing...I got to keep my foglights and I didn't have to cut my bumper at all.
I'll start a new thread with pictures and more detail, but it was an excellent buy, ended up costing about $300 for the entire thing, which includes a new j pipe and knockoff greddy rs bov.
I'm having a few overheating problems though...but I believe my thermostat gasket is leaking and my radiator cap is not holding pressure right now...should be an easy fix.
