Contrary to what everyone says, The evo8 fmic is actually rather easy to install on a 1G. I know everyone says they suck, but I'm on a budget and it will do me fine for the power i'm going to make. The only thing I had to do was cut the bumper a little bit, but I decided to go ahead and cut it in half. Mounting was easy, and the stock intercooler mounting tabs are in the right spot to mount it up. The cool thing about it is you can still run the piping so that you can keep your stock foglights. Here's a picture of it installed.

any feedback?

wow, I didn't think the EVOVIII cores were that big. nice install though, how much did you pay for it? did you get it used? how was the piping install?

I just caved and bought the SBR race core for my 2G... but that's cool :dsm:

Post some more when the piping is done... or installed anyway.

I think it looks good though, I think I will start looking for a evo8 fmic... 300 hp is enough for me :)

thanks, yeah the intercooler was alot bigger than I thought it was gonna be too. I paid 100$ shipped for mine from a guy on www.evolutionm.net. If you look around on there, you can find them for as low as 150$. I had more than a handful of guys offer me theirs for 150 shipped.

I don't have pics of the piping right now, but with just a 15 degree bend after each of the IC outlets, the piping runs Right under the foglights and doesn't stick out under the bumpercover any. It's actually a REAL good fit with the foglights in there and all.

Once I put the tranny back in, I'll snap some pics so everyone can see the piping.

passenger side front has a flat, so the car leans a little bit. I don't hve the pipes on because I had to take everything apart to take the tranny out, and I'm not gonna put it together until I get the new tranny put in.

hey defrag010 i have a quick question for you. What are the dementions of the EVOIII FMIC???

Cut the bumper!!! That thing needs to breathe! I hadn't realized that they were that big either. Wondering what kind of power it will support.

Two words for you man,,, shop broom. LOL,,, just kiddin' ya.

Intercooler looks great in there, good job. :thumb: BTW, what are the inlet/outlet sizes of that intercooler?

Mike

Wow....the Evo FMIC looks a lot bigger on a 1g than it does on my car. That core should satisfy most people that are looking for a decent upgrade on a budget...looks good. I am really surprised that it fit as well as it does on the 1g's. I too would also like to see some pics of the piping.

I helped my friend joe mock up an evo8 fmic on his car today. He mounted it just like mine, by just screwing the two mounting tabs of the intercooler to the bottom of the radiator support. It's really a nice fit.
Anyways, he used a fmic j-pipe, and just mocked up the rest from various bends and couplers from the stock setup.
Here's a pic.

was this the one that was in a frontend wreck that was for sale on like okladsm or ap-r a long time ago??

I was wondering, how much of the bumper do you actually have to cut to fit it in? I know you cut your's in half. Also, that intercooler is pretty big and looks to take up most of the radiator space. I've never heard anything about overheating with Evo 8s so I wouldn't think a DSM would overheat either. What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Zach

you do NOT have to cut your bumper cover, but you will have to trim up the bumper support a little bit.

The only piping you have to make is one to connect a td05 FMIC Jpipe to the drivers side of the core.

it goes from the J-pipe down, straight shot paralell to the bottom of the radiator to a 180 degree bend that goes right into the fmic.. then from the passenger side of the fmic, use a 6" tube with a 90 on the end.. from there, 45 up and connect to your stock uip. It's real easy.
