okay i'm trying to research the whole stroker idea (again). seems the only real disadvantages i'm seeing anyone talk about is the torque breaking things and the longevity. i'm not too worried about breaking drivetrain parts all that much as i'm worried about the life of the motor. seeing people talking about these motors lasting about 10k miles or so before changing the bearings out, etc. so let's have it, who has the highest mileage? cause i'm pondering going stroker or building a built 2.0l.

also, what's the real difference between the 2.3 and 2.4? are parts harder to find for the 2.4 or something? anything other than that and .1 liter more of displacement? thanks!

scott

Hmm.. Never heard about the replacement of the bearings, but are you planning on building or buying a stroker? and I'm assuming from this and the other post about the crank that you are planning a 4G63. The difference in the 2.3 and 2.4 stroker 4G63 is the bore. if you go with an 87mm bore, then you will get slightly less than 2.4 and 87.5 will get you slightly more than 2.4, but thinner cylinder walls. In truth, our cars are 1.997L not 2.0, much the way the 87mm will yeild a 2.4. Cometic supposedly makes a headgasket for this configuration. I'll look for it. Please tell me where that you found proof that the 2.4 eats bearings.

I thought the difference b/w a 2.3 and 2.4 is that with a 2.3 you use the 4g63 block w/ 2.4 crank and w/ the 2.4 you use the 2.4 block?

I guess I need to do alot more reading about strokers. :coy:

There are several ways to get the 2.4L and the 4G64 is one option, but it isn't a stroker. There are several displacements that are common for the 4G63, anything from 2.0 to 2.4 using different strokes and bores. Then there's the G4CS, which is a 2.4L block. I'm not sure about many of the details about this engine, but I'm sure you could search and find out. I don't even really know which chasis it comes out of. I still want to know about the bearing eating reported in the first post.

please forgive me about the 1st post. i think i was thinkin about the groden rods when i wrote that part cause i've been researching those a bit too. anyway, sorry about that.

as for the motor, if the machinist i have in mind doesn't have a torque plate or i can't find someone who has one, i'll probably just buy it preassembled. but i'd prefer to build it myself. already have a spare block and all. bout ready to start buying parts. gonna talk to the machinist next week about a torque plate.

I don't remember the specifics, but when I was building my 2.3L I asked the same question to everyone I could that had a stroker motor. I know a year ago there were about a dozen people who had driven on them for a year or two with no problems, and there were 2-3 people I talked to who had driven cross-country with no problems.
