I was just thinking about this idea over and over again. I just had to see what some of the great minds on here had to say about it. Something along the lines of, SD setup(Dsmlink), Evo 3 16g, huge A/A intercooler or A/W intercooler or LOTS of Methanol, slap a BLOX velocity stack/filter combination on the inlet of each turbo, or cold air intake with a BLOX setup, and the other supporting mods. Then rear mount a turbo that usually would not be streetable, or within your rev range.
If you wanted to, you could even keep the whole stock 1G or 2G exhaust manifold/turbo/o2 housing/downpipe setup on the car, and then focus on the rear mounted turbo. I would imagine the stock trim turbo would make the car flow enough exhaust gases to spool a large turbo the way a larger displacement engine would. Taking it a step further, adding boost with the smaller turbo could help the bigger, rear mounted turbo spool faster. You could also open a muffler up and hollow it out, then mount the exhaust housing/o2 housing in the muffler. Find a flange that is identical to the inlet of your turbo and weld it to a tube for the inlet of the muffler. Then find a find a flange that is identical to the outlet of the o2 housing flange and weld it to a tube for the outlet of the muffler. This will encase the hotside of the turbo, which will make the turbo work better because of the energy that is conserved in the form of heat, it will help hide the turbo, and protect it. I would also use some sort of heat/rock shield around the compressor housing of the turbo for the same reasons.
I know that people have done twin turbo setups on 4 cylinder engines and larger, one that I know of on this website. This is just an idea of mine, one of too many.. I always think about throwing it out there, but never do..
