thinking of getting the Aurora 4000 with the .76 a/r housing and the t3 exhaust flange. i realize it's normally used as a diesel turbo... but from everything i've heard, they're built like tanks and relatively cheap (around $800.) should i just stick to something a little more tried and true? or would this be a worth a shot? 75 lbs./ minute sounds awfully enticing. LOL

after looking at their site i doubt that turbo is $800, the chra for the one just a size bigger was $885

i'm actually not sure just how much it is. probably closer to $850. but panther is right, for the aurora 5000, just the turbo is listed for $885 on their site. and you'd be surprised how much they want for the kits... it's all bolt on stuff for diesels... but all i want is the turbo. and they're local to me, which would be nice if it ever shit the bed LOL i'll call tomorrow and make sure on pricing. but would it be retarded to run that? am i gonna have spool issues?

You are misreading and misunderstanding, no offense. The CHRA is only the center section of a turbo, no housings. They want $885 for the CHRA. I found the Aurora 4000 on their site finally, for $1885.

Scroll about 1/4 of the way down the page and you'll find it. If you find a place that sells that turbo for $800 let us know.

No doubt, $400-700+ compressor housings, $799 turbine housing
Don't get me wrong, the ATS trans and co-pilot we used in the duramax works GREAT! But the turbo prices seem quite steep for what you're getting.

jokes on me anyways. they won't sell a non waste-gated unit. and i'm already set up for external waste-gate as it is.

so scratch that whole idea. all i really want is a turbo with decent spool times, that can push roughly 600-700 horsepower for under a grand.... the further under the better... but i'd rather it not shit out on me either. am i asking for too much here? or where should i look?

and I want a pony, and 2 puppies, and lots of candy. ROFL

A HX4_ is around the right size and can be had for fairly cheap. I would stay away from used garretts with ball bearings, if you wind up needing a rebuild it's going to cost as much as a holset in the first place. You could probably pick up a used borg warner with journal bearings.

Send out either the holset or BW have them rebuilt and they will be like new. The holset will for sure be under a grand, the BW, depends on what it is and where you find it. You can also get new BW and garretts in the $1500 range I believe.

Borg Warner S362 Non Extended Tip - GVautosport

S362NET will do the job, a local has made 691whp on pump/meth and run deep 10s in a full weight 2g with one in the .70 T3 hot side.

Check out Comp Turbo. They are fairly new on the DSM scene but those of us that have one are impressed with the turbo and the pricing is good as well. I dont know if you can get 700hp for under a grand with them though. But it dont hurt to try.

Turbochargers Comp Turbo - Turbocharger, Rebuilds, Turbo Kits

They are interesting pieces. I'm glad that Innovative Turbo revamped themselves a bit to become Comp Turbo. Hopefully they have the reliability that DSM'ers need

Or the failures could have been caused by oiling issues or Break in material from the BRAND NEW ENGINE debris
Anything is possible- but a properly-built engine should not be filling the turbo with debris large enough to cause damage. The example I always use is how many times do you have to take a brand new Evo back to the dealer for turbo swaps within the first 5000 miles while the engine is breaking in.

I fully understand that. But it only takes one piece of metal shaving left in the oil galleys to kill a turbo. Then the trash from that turbo can kill anotherone if you don't get everything cleaned out properly. Or the first turbo could have been junk and trash from that one killed the second. Either way my point is that we don't know what killed the turbos for sure and comp made things right. Let's see how the bb turbo holds up. Although it is rare sometimes folks that were part of or even owned one company and failed can learn and do it correctly the second time arround. So far Comp seems to be doing a great job.
