I am looking for some good guidance here on my plans for my Auto GSX. The engine is 100% stock with 70,000ish miles on it. I am looking to have a 12.5-13 second full interior car with AC that hits boost around stock levels:)

Here is what I am looking at so far:

FP Big T28 Turbo
FP Manifold (stock one is cracked)
FMIC
550 injectors
DSM Link v3 (i'll have Mach V tune it to start, so I don't blow it up)
Upgraded Fuel Pump

What I have:
Full 3" Turbo back exhaust and High flow Cat (Virginia Emissions :( )
Boost gauge

I have spent the first 3 months of ownership fixing all of the little things that were wrong with the car : oil leaks, suspension, etc... Now I am ready to move onto the next level and I am a little overwhelmed by my choices. I keep reading about the Evo 16G, but perhaps it is overkill for what I am shooting for?

To be perfectly frank, I am kind of scared to jump to a big turbo and blow this thing sky high with my lack of turbo modding experience. Thank you!

Get a wideband on that list, that is pretty key. Id say a evo III 16g would be perfect for your setup, maybe even a small 16g, which can be purchased pretty inexpensively.

Honestly a fp t 28 flows around the same air as a small 16g just with a bigger price tag, you would be money ahead with an evo 16g. You will wanna go a bit larger on injectors id say smallest at a 650 but with link you can go bigger . You will also need a wideband

The 16g has alot of backup in the way of reliability. Im not sure of that t28. I have a 1g. I would recommend doing all your maintenance before doing upgrades. Especially timing belt and a full gasket kit and lastly, arp headstuds and head gasket for felpro or comotec. Thats my opinion. I have a 1G and so far bought this 16g but am gna do all of the novel first for reliability.

Thanks guys! I will definitely be adding a wideband to my build and the timing belt, water pump, etc...

Question about the Evo III 16g, from what I have read, it seems some people aren't hitting boost until around 3800rpm on a 2.0? If I am understanding correctly what I will need for a 16g, I will need an adapter kit, a J-pipe and new oil supply/return lines to get it installed.

I know the FP T28 is a little more pricey to start with, but since it is basically a drop in turbo, I won't need new oil lines, IC piping, new heat shields, etc..., so that it is a plus for it there.

This is a tough decision, but I am in no rush at all. I may just get everything except the turbo and learn some on my T25 before I make the jump up to something bigger.

honestly installing the evo 3 is very easy i put one on my 2g, you have to slightly bend the water lines oil drain will work you just have to file the bolt holes closer to center,(use a gasket as a guide).

you will need an oil feed line and j pipe

Thanks again guys! I have done a lot of searching and I guess what is causing me confusion is the conflicting stories I read about spool characteristics of the different turbos. Some say the big T28 spools slower than a small 16g others say an EvoIII 16G spools in the 3800 RPM range.

From the replies I have received, the consensus here is that the EvoIII16G is the way to go. I have never driven or even rode in a GSX that had anything else than a stock setup, so I am just trying to avoid having a car that is annoying to drive on the street with a lot of turbo lag.

One more noob question. I have this wideband setup picked out, will it do what I need it to do? Here is the link: DB Gauges: Air Fuel Ratio Guage

Why not go with the AEM UEGO? looks bette with sweeping bars if you ask me, and around the same price also

The evo3 turbo is my favorite of all time. I was hitting full boost at 3000rpms on my built 6-bolt 9.0 2.0, and when on the highway doing 70 if you breathed on the pedal you instantly hit 10 psi. Quick boost, lots of midrange with good topend. With the v3 I would go with bigger injectors then you need incase of maxing out the evo3 or for further upgrades-I'm thinking 750's to keep your idc's low.

:banghead: Maybe with horrible boost leaks. A normal set-up should get 20psi by 3000rpms (2.0L), perfect mid-range turbo with very little lag. You should start to build boost by 2500 in 3rd then it has an insta-hit feel.

Definitely A E316G not sure where anyone got 3.8k rpm Spool from...
If upgrading injectors I'd go just a bit larger not sure if E85 is available in your area but with some 1050-1150cc injectors.
It would be enough fuel to support your goals on any fuel an have room to grow an would be a better option I always say its best to by once then have to upgrade to get to a new goal. ...

Because some people base their decisions off of performance instead of looks an trust me the Lc-1 is the winner I've owned both...you can guess which I still own(or look at my Mods LOL)
