Thoughts on pte 5031e

so i found a used pte 5031E for $250 o.b.o. what are your thoughts on this turbo. also it is setup for external gate and mitsu flanged.

In theory it should be the same turbo as a Garrett T04E50 using the 50-trim compressor and T31 turbine which have been around for decades, but for some reason DSMers seem to have horrible reliability issues with journal bearing PTE turbos on their cars.

I suppose this decision hinges on the overall condition of the turbo- if it's been abused or has enough shaft play to deem it necessary to be rebuilt, I'd stay away and look to another option.

Are you able to physically see the turbo before purchase, or is this an internet transaction?
