canada,
All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

I want to say first off thank you all for your assistance. I ohm tested everything for the ignition it all seemed to test correct. So I changed out the fuel pump no change. The only thing I could think of next was the cam sensor or the crank sensor. Cam sensor was good. So I replaced the crank sensor and bam fire.
Thanks again guys.

Backfiring thru the intake is a timing issue.if comp test comes out good and you have good spark i would check the cam and crank sensors next.

Car won't start, check engine light comes on only when cranking, no spark, why does the check engine light stay off until I crank it ?

Not sure why the signal is staying off but if our not getting fire you could have a fried sensor. Check the cam angle sensor or the crank position sensor that could be part of your fire problem. I had this happen to my 2g.

^^^^^ that's correct, check engine light only come on when there's a bad sensor. i would start with the crank sensor and work your way up to the cam sensor, also check ## coils

It turns on for a few seconds, then off, then when I try to crank it, it turns on, I've replaced coil pack, power transistor, and cam angle sensor, but I replaced them with junkyard parts so.... Yeah, but it doesn't have a crank position sensor, it's a 1g

That is an turbo timer adapter harness. you need to find a new contector that plugs into the ignition switch.i would try to find out why that fuelpump wire burnt in the first place.

Another no start.

Issue is I got no spark. While driving, it started misfiring bad, and killed itself. This is a fresh rebuild motor, with about 50 miles on it, re-using sensors, pretty much everything outside the motor. 97 motor, on a 96 shell.

I checked the fuses, replaced PT & CPS, new plugs gapped at .27... No power to CPS either. Im about to change the crank sensor also. I dont have a voltage tester. Im at a loss on this one.

So once again I turn to the world of knowledge on dsmtuners!
Here's the issue;

95 talon Awd/turbo (stock) died while driving one day. Stop light turned green. First gear all good, shift to second and the engine cuts off. Coast to parking lot, engine turns but will not turn over. Tow it home.
My first though was the timing skipped. Check timing-timing is good.
Second thought-engine seized (always thinking the worst!) pulled the valve cover. Preliminary check looked like the engine was okay.

Then I went about checking the fuel system. New plugs/plug wires. Distributor and injector all getting power. But at last, a dead fuel pump! Simple enough, new fuel pump in!
Try and start the car. Sounded like it wanted to turn over but wouldn't get the engine running.
Back to the drawing board. PCM... Ah hah! New PCM. Trying to start but will not turn over. As I'm turning the engine, the starter goes from cranking. To the clicking noise we all recognize when our battery is dead. Put a brand new battery in(for good measure) Clean and tighten battery terminals. Still, the starter goes click click click....
Pulled the starter today, had it tested at autozone, tests said starter is all good.

Quite honestly... I'm stumped! So I turn to the community, any ideas?!
Any help, little or small, is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Have you checked all the fuses? Some of them are hard to see when they've blown. This could contribute to the drained battery. But how did you check the distributor, our cars don't have a distributor just a coil pack.

If it's clicking then my money says its either loose/poor power/ground wires for the starter/engine, or the steering column's ignition switch. Man I've been posting this a lot lately... :)

Check your grounds , and clean them all. DSM's ecu is ground based ecu. It doesn't supply power to items it just completes grounds to make them work. So bad grounds equal no vroom vroom. There are ecu 3 ground points I believe on a 2g.

Check clutch switch.....since you were shifting when it happened. Probably not the issue but it is needed to start unless you modified it.

Check ignition switch.....it activates everything.....even PCM to tell fuel pump to come on. The switch could be bad.
