canada,
All "my car won't start" discussion threads are merged HERE. We've basically made it easier for those who insist upon not searching by grouping together all threads from those with similar issues so you can just scroll through and see some possible solutions. To search for info within this thread, use the "Search This Thread" feature in the black bar about 3" above what you're reading right now.

Could be anything from a loose battery terminal to internal engine damage, and literally everything in between which may involve the electrical, fuel, and ignition system...possibly even something that you screwed up while working on the car yourself. While it's unlikely we're going to diagnose and solve your problem over the internet, feel free to discuss any possible solutions.

I live in Canada and right now its not very warm out, about -30c
my car does not have a block heater too keep it warm.

I tryed to start my car this morning and it wouldent start, ive had this problem before but this time, the car doesnt crank at all it just makes a sound that sounds like an electric drill.

Whats wrong.

Thanks

Story continues, i put the 113g on there and its turns on and runs as long as i have foot on gas peddle but it wont idle. There is no more oil in exhaust but there is ALOT of white smoke coming from oil cap and if open oil cap while car is running, oil comes out. and the crank case breather hose that goes into intake pipe looks like a smoke machine or something.LOL Are this sings of blown head gasket or bad rings?

Broken headgasket all the way. Your coolant and oil are mixing, thus I wouldn't drive the car in case it blows.

Cut a new pin for the gear, knocked the cam back together, helicoiled the stripped bearing cap bolt holes, put everything back together and buttoned up.

Here is the result:

thanks for the input, i played with it today and pulled the started relay out and the car started with out the relay, and was still making this clicking sound from that area, so does the mean the ecu is making the nose and causing the issue?

hey whats up guys, just finished my timing belt and put everything in correct time and tensioned properly, ive got air fuel and spark but when i go to start it. the car just turns over :banghead: i cant figure out why it wont start....

Double check your timming marks. If you have air, fuel, spark, compression it should start unless the timming is off.

Ok so rescently i was changing the throttle body on my 97 eclipse gs spyder and after i changed it the car does not want to crank. So i tried spraying carb cleaner in the tb and it cranks right up and runs fine and after the initial start up it will crank up all by its self but after the engine cools and i come back out to try i get the same problem. I though maybe it was the tb but i changed it back to the other one an it still did it ive heard something about the coolant sensor ? Not sure what it could be help? Thanks

Im really trying to get my 420a running..she cranks over but not a single sign that it's going to start :/ It seem's the previous owner had a alarm system installed so ill get rid of all that wiring but in the mean time can someone just list done some of the major possibilities of a no start. Thanks alot!

Yes the tps is plugged in but i think the iac has a broken wire somewhere in between the sensor and the ecu. I had the inline 6 pin setup and it was throwing that code i tried changing it and it did nothing but it still ran fine so i dont thing its the iac because i could unplug it before i changed the tb and it did nothing at all. It just turns over now and then like stops and you hear the fans cut on for a second but i can take off the intake hose and spray carb cleaner in there and itll fire right up like its sposed to and i can kill it immediatly and itll crank up like its sposed to idk its got me mindblown

I did change it to the turbo tb now though and rewired the iac like a thread i found said but still no dice on the iac gotta be a broken wire Also my maf went out so its running without it right now so really rich but still runs fine just cant think of why the initial start is not working right.

With me being scared of electricity, instead of holding the screwdriver, I prefer to lay it on the VC, and have it arc to the VC, but regardless, same theory, have metal close to see the arc.

Background info: While driving a nice summer evening, my headunit start turning on and off. I figure the connection between my phone and headunit was the issue, so I shut it off. Next I notice the the dash light become extremely dim. By the timei get to my destination there isnt enough power to tach, so it showed it was idling at 0 basically. After this, the car start to bog down, back firing alot until it just stopped. Jumped it once, stayed in first got it farther up the road but i stayed in first and due the lack of power i overheated the car and it shut off (radiator fans died due to no power) Tried jump again, no dice.

Heres what I've tested. Battery isnt the issue, using mymultimeter i had 13v while jumping start (not that it worked)

This what happens when i try to turn it on.

Alternator or starter? Tomorrow im going attempt to remove alternator and have it tested.

thanks!

Check fuses. All are intact. Stupid left the car on (ignition on) killed the battery. I'm going heck grounds, look for shorts, check power transistor n check the alternator . I'll let you guys know how it goes

This does not sound like a starter issue. I would guess that its either the battery or the alternator. Check to make sure your connections to the battery are clean and tight, and if they have rust on them disconnect your battery and clean them up a bit.
