2G Start of my 2G JDM 6 bolt swap and auto to manual swap

The noise your describing is exaclty how my car sounded when it started to blow up. ended up melting the #1 piston and a hole in the head idled beatiful but when you gave it throttle it knocked like a sumbitch.

Have you made sure that the tensioner and pulley are in good shape? They like to raise hell and they sound great. I learned a trick working on cars at a dealership.........

run your motor till it gets warm
pull out your vaccum line going to your valve cover
raise the idle and listen to the noise
then plug up that vaccum hose going to the valve cover with your finger for about 10 seconds.
raise the idle again and listen to see if the noise changed pitch
doing that, you will have built up crank case preasure and if there is any slack in the bearings, it should quite down quiet a bit.

this trick does work as when we get used cars checked in, sometimes customers put heavy oil or even saw dust in thier motor before they trade it in to make it sound smoothe. then when we do a used car inspection and change the oil, it starts knocking and they look to blame a tech for the knock. to be honest though, we are supposed to put heavy oil back in there and ship it out if the car is being sold for cash only being that it is not a safety concern.

I will try that tonight thanks for the tip. If you take a screwdrive and put it on the pan/black and listen it sound like a knock in the pan.

Well Jim was over and of course I was beating on the car as usual before he got there. We drove it around gave it a couple hard blasts and took it back to my hoist and put it in the air to listen to the pan etc. He assured me that his sounds exactly the same his 7 bolt that is and there is nothing to worry about in my motor. Good news I'm just gonna beat the piss out of it and if something happens another 6 bolt is only 1500

Yeah we went though most of it. The motor is just fine, it's just a typical 1G DSM motor with it's normal noises. Beat the snot out of it and enjoy it will be just fine.

Good, I am glad to hear. Now wish me luck with my 6 bolt. When I finally purchase all the sensors and remaining items to crank it, I will find out if my rebuilt motor is worth a shit.

my 7 bolt is about to take a dump... rod knocking... so this thread was timely since I will be looking into doing a 6bolt short block...

I wasn't aware that I was going to have problems with the oil cooler/ housing between the 1g and 2g so I just learned something new... THANKS!

as far as the 2nd o2, i have been using the bypass listed on vfaq.com for a little over 4 months now with not one code thrown yet... the only bad thing is the resistors are large.

i soldered and heatshrank all the connections, then heatshrunk the whole assembly.
I used zipties with self tapping screws and some leftover aluminum electrical fencing wire to solidly mount the assembly to the underside of the car... its been underwater several times in the monsoon season with no problems.

Not all LSD's mine and DSMJIM's aren't the Auto one was though but the MT one isn't.

Well pretty much all good here except for the RM once in a while a small diff leak in the back from me tearing the seal gotta replace it and I found a small leak on my vavle cover I have to fix. Other then that pretty good washing it today and putting it in storage this afternoon till spring.

When you first bought the car you got to choose if you wanted LSD or not.

See I don't know how to check Tcase ratio's what I was told was that the trans Tcase and Diff had to match so thats what I did.

Dude, I don't know what you mean by that, but hook me up with a job. I am broke and so is my car.

Do any of you guys have a way to help me with this problem?

I want to re-wire my CAS for my 6 bolt swap but I don't know which plugs are for the cam and crank angle sensors. Is there any special writing on the plugs them selves to tell them apart? I don't want to wire my CAS to my AC plug or anything like that ya know?

I am not very familiar with 2g's. I bought the car without a block or head and I just put my 6 bolt in there.

Ok no problem about the hoist Jamie, whenever you have the chance, after christmas is cool too really. Just don't wanna drive in the salt hahhh. Accutlaly I don't really care that much.
