Yeah it looks cool but its kinda pointless as far as protection from junk falling into the lower timing belt cover area and shredding the belt. Its good for show though, I still like the clear upper covers the best.

I think separating the 2 halves of the lower cover somewhere along the blue line in the picture below would be best. Thats probably how I'd do it.

And I realize that for everyone who has eliminated power steering and a/c its alot easier to remove the lower cover with the engine in the car, but I still have them and if you make it in two halves I'd definately be interested in buying one. And just as a side note, be really carefull with your measurements. The clearance between the stock lower cover and accessary belts is slim to none as it is. The belts chew right through the plastic but ss is another story.

That upper cover would be pretty awesome if it was enclosed w clear plastic, or if it could fit over the plastic covers as an accessory! Wicked look!

Just a little input... If you split it like the 7 bolt covers are split then you don't have to worry about the engine mount that occupies that hole so you can take both parts of the timing cover off without messing with the mount's shenanigans. Do you have objections to the stock 7 bolt design other than its plastic composition? I know that I personally hate the one piece timing cover that my 1g has.

i have no issue with a two piece design and was looking at them to start with. i havent really looked at what i want to do to much yet

...find a way to keep the two halves together and sturdy if you split them with a common bolt to hold them together. Otherwise, the loose ends can find their way into the belts and rotating devices...

got a working prototype but i shelved it for now just because i didnt want to waste any more time on a part that the stock piece works just as good. i have a jig made but with the price of stainless rithe now you can get a new oem cover for cheaper
