I have read threads and i posted in on i just realized was made in 2004 so i have a project it was a challenge for me on another forum. I am taking a 1999 Eclipse GS OZ Rally SPort and converting it to AWD and droping the AWD PULSAR GTIR sr20det ive done research and some say 10k some say more caould anyone give me a list of specifics i need to do. Before u bash me about getting a GSX i dont want to im taking a low end car and making it a high end

from what i understand of the 4g63 swap it will fit right in
but i also know it takes someother work
what does that work consist of
edit: disregaurd the 4g63 swap i want know the sr20 swap

To start out, if you really need to ask what you need to do, you probably aren't ready to do it. Also, this swap is going to have no support for it, i.e. everything you do is going to have to be a custom one off piece. The best way to do this would be to fabricate custom motor mounts and an adapter plate for an AWD Mitsubishi trans. Honestly fitting a completely different trans and driveline is going to be a nightmare. Custom driveshaft, front axles, rear axles, rear dif, etc. As it sits you would still probably need to get custom front axles. Unless you have a great fabricator friend, lots of skill with a TIG, or lots of cash to burn, this swap is going to suck. Once you get the motor in the car and have it attached to a driveline, you still need to figure out either how to wire the stock ECU into the SR20 or how to get the SR20 ECU into the eclipse. I'd say the best way to describe that would be a "wiring cluster-f***" I'll save you the entire "why do this when there are 4g63T AWD eclipses from the factory?" speach, but realize that a lot of people here would say you want to swap an inferior engine into this platform.

Defiant is awake about this time.

what?
Defiant is that a username or what
lets stay on topic haha
and yeah i understand my problem is not only the fact that i want to do this for my reason i posted above but the fact that i plan making this projet long lasting and cannot get ahold of a gsx in this area for anything near reasonable cash pricing. No dealers contain them since all the cars here are mostly Civics and i for one hate civics. But then my friend gave me another idea so i think im going with plan b now and push as much as we can out of this car then sell it to get a better one perferably 6 cilynder

"Near resonable cash pricing"? LOL... How reasonable is this swap going to be?? It makes no sense :ohdamn:

Please just get an early 90s SE-R if you really want to do an awd sr20det swap. :toobad:

Thank you.

Go buy a Nissan. Better yet, Import a 1990-1994 Pulsar GTiR as it will be cheaper than what you want to do. Since they are greater than 10-years old, you can import one and get it legalized fairly easily. Why don't you look into this instead of wasting time and money. They go for around $2000-5000 U.S., and then you can pay for shipping and legalization paperwork. They came with 227HP and 209Tq. Which is almost the same output as a stock AWD 2G DSM.

You are not making a low-end car into a high-end car by any means. You are wasting money.

Do this, or think of something else....Like purchase an AWD DSM with a more capable engine than the SR20DET.

I don't know what he's talking about not being able to find GSX's around here. I found mine for $200 with a blown head gasket. They are around in numbers, you just have to know where to look. I saw a 95-99 GSX in Oregon with heavy mods already done for 7k or trade for newer style motorcycle listed on craigslist.

I'm all for creative ideas, man, but with this one...not so much. Why buy a dog and try making it a cat?? This swap isn't feasible.

Thank you.

I am totally with Tim on this one. Trust him/Take his word for it. This man knows his shit!:thumb:

I have a swap that I need help with too guys....Im taking my 4g63 AWD out of the Talon and putting a 420a fwd in! Or maybe a Geo Metro 1.3 liter stroker I haven't decided yet.

On a more serious note...I used to own a 420a Eclipse with a turbokit on it and My friend had a 200 sx with the sr20det swap...I beat him by like 5 cars lenghts hahaha he always said "i got no traction dude" when he lost to my 420a.

Don't listen to the critics....the 420a is NOT that bad of an engine. I think its far more reliable than the 4g63...just build up the car you have now.

Seriously, if you're gonna throw money and time at this, at least do an rb series swap.

I used to be a nissan guy. sr20's are very cheaply built motors (needs more cam on bucket) compared to other nissan performance motors (ca18, rb25/26 etc -- not including vg/q series for disucssion savers sake).

What I'm trying to say is if you're gonna do this, go big or go home.

^^^^^^^
The sr20 motor hes talking about is FWD or AWD, so a rb is out :(

Buy a 200sx or a Sentra ser, the sr20det bluebird or pulsur, or be different and put in a sr20ve with valve timing. Swap takes all of 2 days of half ass work to complete. Dont ruin an eclipse for no reason.

I wouldn't even swap out a ka24 for an sr20 in a 240. The sr20 motor is a decent platflorm, but there's no advantage. Infact the sr20 has weaker rods than ka, 3sgte, 4g63, or h22 rods.

Bet that car is pretty light! Does anyone know how much the shipping and legalization is on a imported car over 10years old?
I'd like to get a early evo possibly:shhh:

Um...I don't think a 420a would hold up to 500+whp stock like many 4g63's have. The 420a is a reliable gas mileage, 140hp engine; not high hp engine.

+1 :hellyeah:

I wonder what that cadog would act like since dogs and cats are almost opposites. Same goes for these engines he's talking about swapping.
