99 Eclipse A/T shifter won't go into park

Hey everyone,
I'm new to the Mitsubishi world. This weekend I replaced my wife's heater controls (the knob controlling fan speed broke). So I had removed the dash blah blah, had the controls replaced and reinstalled everything. When I put the shifter back on, I can shift it out of park but when I go back to put it in park, it does not engage. So I can't remove the keys. As soon as disassemble the shifter and pull it up a tiny bit, I can hear the transmission engage. Does anybody have any idea why it won't go into park? I appreciate any help.

There's a adjustment on the trans itself loosen the bolt and see if it goes into park that way

Try to check the white plastic interlock under the selector. The cam should be in this position (attached image) . It has a cable for the key, pin for the brake and selector button. If in order you must put it back to park by just pressing the selector lever and pushing to park.

And don't you have to apply the brake also???
