Car won't go into reverse with shifter.

I have a 1990 GST. I just replaced the 6 shifter bushings because my shifter was sloppy as all hell. Before doing this, my car would not go into reverse from in the car. I always have to pop the hood pull up and then towards the front of the car on the shifter cable where it attaches to the tranny. Goes in everytime, no issues. What I wondering is why the hell is it doing this? Someone please chime in and give me some advise. And for the record, the new bushings are amazing, goes into 1st - 4th like butter without missing gears.

In my 93 had the same problem ...I adjusted the shift cable at the shifter base has a adjustment for side to side.

Which one is the side to side adjustment.

Awsome, i actually just read over that faq and i will be doing it in the morning. I will let u know the results. Thanks man.

I tried to do like the faq says. The problem i am having is that when the shifter is centered, the cable closest to the driver doesnt line up exactly, its about 1/4" too long, i cant shorten it anymore to line up perfect. I am correct by doing this all while in neutral? Also, it will not go into 5th now, which leads me to believe it must be the linkage.
