holy shit .. 429.. just wondering if that bar will help the car in anyway if it were to flip over.. or is it just for show & extra break light??

if its only for show i could make it out of fiberglass, mold a spoiler brealight on it & sell it for $200
Well considering most tracks require (per NHRA and/or IHRA rules) that any convertible faster than 14.00 has a roll bar, I doubt it is just for show.

i just looked at the NHRA regulation rollbar for convertibles, and that lightbar will NOT work for passing NHRA regulations.

though i am hearing from alot of the mustang convertible guys they dont seem to know the difference, i guess as long as it looks like its a real rollbar they dont care much.

Deff NOT A ROLLBAR

adn whats with the ersatz rollbar thing? that was put in the title?

This is for cosmetic appearances only, does not strenghten or reinforce the frame in any way. I promise this. its help on by 4 1.4 inch thing bolts and nuts. thats all. Please dont mistake it for somethig nit should be cool of it were

yea thats what i thought.. doesent matter anyway.. if a spyder were to roll over.. the driver & passanger would be eatting the front windsheild.. so that bar isnt really gonna help anything anywayz.

Has anyone tried the PT Cruiser convertible bar for fit?

No it would not work, its part of the car, kinda like the old covertible Olds Cutless Supreme or VW Cabriolet's, so it would not work.

My opinion as well, its great quailty, easy to install. I have one myself, gives the car a better look. But it is not a role bar by any means. Its only for looks. In the future I plan on getting a real roll bar, but would like to maybe have something custom made to look like the litebar, maybe some foam and wrap. But $$$$$$ :( But not product, and the only company I seen make them for the Spyder

Most cars are pretty-much made up out of parts, but in what way would it not work? Is it welded in? Where? Someplace a gas-axe can't get to?

well for one the pt cruiser could be wider/narrower than a spyder. it could have a totally weird funktified mounting bracket might not even fit. it could be really tall and come up higher than the windsheild and look severly retarded.

not saying it couldnt be done, but youd need to purchase one in the first place(or find a totaled pt cruiser with the rollbar still intact) then mock it up, then modify it, then install it. prolly more trouble than its worth.

i seriously think a real rollbar like on a shelby cobra or a audi quattro(the dual hump ones) and make it into a real bar would be pretty dam sweet, make that and get a tonneau cover that matches the curve of the rollbar, and youd be pretty pimp and still be perfectly legal for under 14's.

My plan (which isnt anymore now that hte car is gone) was to have that then build a rollcage that meets the lines in side facing the front of the car. That was the main reason for getting that, was to add a little style when i got a rollcage put in. So there wouldnt be a gaudy singe bar up there.

There is a vertical strip of metal, behind the 6x9 in the rear, you put the template up to it, and drill 2 holes. I could only do one, becuase we had to cut half the bracket off 6 months prior to fit some REALLY deep 6x9s

Or it could be a precise drop-in fit, which is why I'd asked. But, enough bar-racing for now :D

Or maybe not. WTF Again, it's why I posed the question.

Had you seen the tonneau cover somone had made that covered the rear seat area, and was faired to meet the headrests? A bar built to that could be very cool.

wow defiant i was thinking the exact thing. get the dual hump kinda rollbar and make a tonneau cover out of fiberglass to match the rolls in the rollbar. right now this is how my back seat looks. http://www.mustangevolution.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=7916 i was thinking about doing a tonneau cover that would go over that and mount to the sides and rear using hood pins(prolly 4 of them, 2 sides, 2 rear should suffice). since i can fiberglass all i would have to do is get some wood, make a template out of the rear, make the humps out of styrofoam blocks, glass it, bondo, paint. space it about 3" away from the seat to make room for the rollbar.

but i decided against it due to the massive work involved in making a rollcage, and i cant weld yet anyways. id have to modify the box i have in there now to make room for the rear braces of the rollbar, something i shouldve thought about before making another box.

maybe next year ill do a rollbar/rear box/tonneau cover. or a 50 trim. yeah i think a 50trim's looking good right now.

i know i have seen some people with the lightbars on their spyders. i wanted to know if it gets in the way of anyone in the back seat or can everyone sit "comfortably" back there.

i hall people around so they dont really have a choice i just wabted to make sure it would not hit their head

WTF I'v enever heard of anyone "sitting comfortably" in the back of a DSM. Then again, I know no double-amputees, either.

ROFLLOL!!! Why do you think I got rid of my back... so I wouldn't have to haul people around... or was it to save weight or make room for the cage...?

i have one on mine as well and i love it. i don't carry passengers in the backseat though..LOL

I wondering does anyone no where I can find a roll bar like the ones found on roush mustangs. I saw a spyder on here with one, and I tried to send him a message but he never responded. Thanks

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
