Got some engine destruction pictures for you. 400cc Yamaha engine, made about 20psi of compression, 30psi if I poured oil in the cylinder. It's been way too hot before.

OUCH! That had "material" in it. Can you get a new jug and piston?

Customer brought in a 2002 Yamaha V Star for new fork seals and fluid. It's surprisingly easy on this model.

Something else I like to tinker with, 1972 Arctic Cat, I’m the 3rd generation in my family to own it. It also gives me something to do in the winter since the DSM gets put away. I try to take it on a few vintage rides every winter.

Not really "working" but went out to the Montreal Auto Show Friday night to support my good friend Jim Flash who managed to get his 2G into the performance section. For those who don't know, he currently holds the records for the quickest auto 2g.

I did build his tcase....so I guess I actually did work on it :p

Took a break from sanding my own car parts to prep for my kiddos pinewood derby in two weeks. Shaped, sanded, ready for primer

That brings me back to a time that I completely forgot about. We used to build C02 racers. Those little canisters that you used to load BB guns with. We would carve and shape a little car body from pine, then drill out the rear side to insert the canister. We had to attach an eyelet to the top of the body which rode on a stiff string, and rig them all up together, with a contraption that would puncture every canister at once. The idea was to design the most aerodynamic body to win the race. Since there were occasional inconsistencies with the canister pressure or launch, we would rotate positions and race each one three times. The best of three went to the final round to run three more times. It was typically obvious who had the best design but occasionally we had nail biting races.

Ah, the good days of betting 20 bucks on a race. Drag racing is a whole different animal if you're serious about it.

We did the same and then got the idea to put one of Estes black powder rocket engines in there. Easier to start them all at the same time but much harder on the strings...

Customer brought me a classic 1989 John Deere 265 for a possible engine rebuild or replacement. The owner bought it 47 years ago and says it has centimental value. It was loved and upkept until 2 years ago, it started misfiring until it wouldn't start anymore. Definitely low on compression and rings/valves may be toast. This is the first of this particular model that I've worked with.

They were built so much stronger, with heavier decks and frames. Good old machines!

I went to the Birmingham World of Wheels today. I didn't take many pictures but I wanted to share this 4g63T equipped Eagle Summit wagon with you guys.

Thanks Solomon! Cool ass ride! I appreciate you sharing! :thumb:

A good friend's daughter just got a '97 Infiniti Q45 as her first car and needed some help with getting it caught up on maintenance and gone through to make sure it is a good, safe car to drive. She has an interest in cars too so she spent the day in the garage with me while I taught her about everything we were doing and she helped where she could.

It ended up being a long day as we did quite a bit of work.
- Oil/filter change
- Spark plugs
- MAF and throttle body cleaned
- PVC valve
- Air filter
- Hood struts
- Brakes flushed
- Rear diff fluid
- New headlight bulbs
- Got the radio working again
- Pressure washed the engine bay

Had a couple things on the list we didn't get to, namely the o2 sensors because they were seized. I'm going to need to drop the exhaust to get those out so that will have to wait for another day.

You were VERY busy, but I bet you both felt accomplished! I have an 2004 I35. Nice car, reliable, every creature comfort you could get. I love it. I didn't look for a G series as I use mine for a family car, vacation etc. I'm glad to hear of the father/daughter thing, good job dad 👍

More like uncle/niece, but we had a blast. :)

This was a car that her grandfather gifted to her. It had been sitting undriven for a couple years but it's overall a nice little car, just needs a little TLC to get back into fighting shape.

Did an oil change on the wife's car and rotated her tires yesterday.

Did I mention we got here an Outlander PHEV a couple years ago? She loves it, and I don't hate it. Too expensive for what it is, but that describes everything these days. Saves a good amount of money on gas so long as we set the charging schedule to be mostly charging throughout the day, not at night. We only fill up once per month on average. Again, it's not my cup of tea, but it was a better buy than the RAV4 alternative (which had a dealer markup and a long wait time, if you could get one). Plus it has Mitsu AWD.

What is an estimated cost to charge it per month? I always wondered. If you run out of charge, how far will the little motor get you? Curious minds want to know 🤔 😁

Lots of good questions... we have solar so it doesn't cost us anything unless I charge it when the system isn't producing, which I only do a few hours per day. It takes about 13 hours to fully charge (on a 120v circuit - I really need to get a 240v circuit run to charge faster, but meh, too many other things to do). When it's fully charged, you can run it about 35 miles on battery only, but I leave it in normal hybrid mode most of the time. I think the total range for a fully charged and full tank of gas is just over 400 miles. It's not the best mileage of its competitors, but it's good enough.

We went from a gas guzzling Traverse to this, and immediately saved a couple hundred on gas per month. Granted, that's when gas prices were super high, but it's still fairly high here in CA compared to other states, so having a PHEV helps a lot. And I still feel like PHEV is the best of both worlds for us. Especially if it's for her :)

Finished up the paint on my kids pinewood cars this weekend. My son is going for the Lightning McQueen aesthetic and daughter wanted sparkly gold. Decals and weights are in so only a little bit more to do before race day on Sunday
