Ok so i have upgraded my alternator to a 90amp, hoping it would help with the dimming lights. Well no luck. I was thinking of adding a second battery in hopes this would help. Do i run them in parallel. Like + to + and ground the rear battery to the trunk. Any suggestions on what i would need? do i need a farad capacitor? What if i ran the + directly from my alt. to the rear battery and a + from the rear battery to my front battery to? In other words both batteries would have a charge from the alt. and a positive cable from one to the other. Would it over run or kill my alt.? All opinions are welcome. Good or bad. Im good with radios and alarms. Am also good with engine and repairs, just not electrical.

If you wire two batteries in parallel (+ to +) you will be increasing the current, if you wire to batteries in series (+ to -) you will be increasing the voltage. What a capacitor will do is take voltage from the battery and hold a charge and release the voltage when it is needed. The higher the farad capacitor the higher the charge it can hold. Why are your lights dimming with an upgraded alternator? Are you running alot of electronics or a system or something?

The voltage drops when I depress the clutch. Just link. 680cc inj. Headlights and stereo but no amp or subs.

Which would be a better solution? What else beside a battery LOL would I need so I don't damage anything.

Well in that case you should not be having voltage drops. Check simple things first like make sure the alternator belt is tight, check for loose cables, check damaged wires that may be shorting out, make sure ground wires are free of corrosion and have good connections. The stock alternator and quality 700 or higher amp battery should easily be able to handle all of the things you mentioned and maintain around 14 volts. You obviously have a problem somewhere.

+1 on cleaning all the grounds...

Ok I'm gonna do that. But if I still wanna do a second battery how would I? What would I need? I was thinking making it a dedicated for stereo system and my inverter for my laptop. I plan on putting in an in dash tv.

If your trying to run the second battery for just your entertainment systems then i believe you want to run the batteries in sync, + to + for the voltage, but it has been a while since i have played with electrical so i might be backwards in my saying that.
Run a wire from each battery to the alt. that way you basically have 2 complete circuits and they will both charge.

What i did in my boat and love the setup was two batteries and a isolator. The isolater makes it so both batteries are one while its running. Therefore charging both batteries while running then seperates them while off.

Run all your electronics off the aux battery. Then you wont run your main battery dead and be stranded somewhere. Then you start car and it will charge them both up.

Ok that answers it a little bit. But can you explain the wiring steps? As far as my stereo and stuff, would I wire the constant to the new battery or use the constant and switched to secondary?
