Looking for battery recommendations for my GSX in anticipation of getting tuned in June. Has a 2.3 stroker with 9.0:1 compression ratio on E85 and 2200cc injectors, battery is relocated to the trunk with a shutoff switch due to an unknown draw. Not much for electronics as it's more of a track car but the fans are always on as long as the key is on so worth noting.. I have no idea what battery is in there now but it always seemed to crank slow since I bought it. Alternator is stock as far as I know.

Being it's a dry weather summer weekend car I don't mind throwing the Walmart special in for less then $100 but I would like something that "cranks confidently" for when I do decide to take it out. I'll also be investing in a battery tender for when I'm not running it.

The Optima Red Top sounds appealing due to having +700 CCA, most of what I can find relates to V8s running like a 13.0:1 compression and guys are recommending higher amps upwards of 900-1000. So what recommendations do you all have and is an "upgraded" battery really even worth it for this? Thanks in advance!

Bumping this thread. I too am looking into a new battery. Mine is a 4 year old Duralast gold that’s in the trunk and I find myself having to jump start it on the colder mornings. Once driven it seems to start fine until the next night it sits.

Considering going AGM but not sure if it’ll be good for my set up. Car is basic and I don’t take it on long trips. Short trips around town mostly or the occasional trip to work that’s a 20 min highway drive each way.

Personally using a Varley Red Top 15, also located to the trunk but i run it as a daily so the smaller form factor is nice. Can easily sit for a week or 2 and crank confidently ( even with 30/35f) outside.

I have been using a pc680 for many years! I have killed 2 of them over my time. mostly due to not maintaining the charge on them. GREAT batteries to use but can be small if you have high output electrics.

My NEXT battery will likely be an Anti-gravity with restart as if i forget to charge the battery i can at least restart it via the button on the battery
