I wouldn't worry too much about what others are seeing. I have noticed people exaggerate spool numbers. It's something that has to be datalogged for sure to know. Most people eyeball it think they are spooling sooner than they really are. Just make sure there are no boost leaks and no exhaust leaks before the turbine wheel.
Maintenance is a GOOD thing to do before strapping it down. Nothing worse than chasing down issues during dyno time.

Rev that motor! You are not doing any harm with 8,300rpm. I revved my car to 8,500rpm for YEARS with HKS 272/272 and STOCK springs/retainers with no issue. 

, a DSM is so unreliable you cant even count on it to break down when it is suppose to.
Never knocked or anything though, just one day the crank split. not really sure if it was related to the oil filter blow offs or not. It seems to be more of an issue on the 91+ housing, at least from my experience anyways.
