Yea sometimes clogged oil coolers can cause excessive pressure there as well. but generally the 90 filter housings do better at not letting that happen becuase the housing doesnt flex/come unscrewed like the 91+. what brand oil filter was it?

It was a WIX brand filter. Everything has been maintained on this car and I can not explain why it happened other than just a complete fluke. Only thing I can come up with is maybe the 4 hour drive before the dyno had something to do with it but who knows. I always put them on extra tight to make sure this doesn't happen but I guess it goes to show anything can happen.

If you don't safety wire your filter, it's only a matter of time before you blow one off, regardless of which housing you use. My 2g would spit the filter out ever 2-3 runs before I safety wired it, using a NT housing. Rule number 1, always safety wire the oil filter. Rule number 2, if you run the 91+ oil mixer setup, torque the stud to spec EVERY time you take the filter off. Taking the filter off loosens this stud, and you blow out the backside gasket at high rpm. It's a 14mm deep socket, and I believe I used to go to 20 ft-lbs to avoid crushing it. Never had the other gasket blow out after starting this habbit. If someone else changes your oil (shame on you), make sure they're aware of this.

How do you mean safety wire the filter? I have a 90 housing but just wondering in what way you can fix a wire to it that I am guessing is meant to keep it from getting lose.

Thanks for the information Kevin. No one ever changes the oil on this car but either myself or one of the guys at English Racing and they only do it if they have the car and need to do it.

I am having a blond moment right now. What do you mean by the 91+ oil mixer setup?

coolant cooled oil filter housing.

Put a worm gear clamp around the oil filter, capturing a length of safety wire under/around it, then tie the other end off to something that will prevent the filter from spinning in the counter-clockwise direction. [/end] No more filter problems.

Yes, the coolant cooled oil cooler has affectionately been called an oil mixer since one of mine caused me to change the HG a couple times needlessly. :) Those coolers are more fragile than a box of glass dildos.

I just got my divided t4 fired up last week. Welder is coming over tonight to get started on my exhaust.. So another week or 2 and I should be getting some miles on this thing finally.

Yes, but what you can see would be no different then any other 362, unless you get the small cover (But I'm guessing you know that with 700 posts)
