I agree man! I have other things going on, you have other things going on, but we still have a passion for our DSMs and "find" the time and $ :thumb:
I'm not as fast as I used to be but I still have that fire!
Thanks Sean!!!

Thanks Sean!!!
Im trying to balance a few things myself.... the moneys getting me... everything is priced like gold these days

I dabble in Silver but gold is out of my reach. :heystupid: so no trading/bartering and you are right, prices for everything are getting to the point that some cant keep it up and that's ashame.

Well I got my block and rods back from the shop today so here are some FRESH pictures. I haven't cleaned the block yet or punched out the balance shaft bearings for a BSE but that will come.
These rods WERE 21mm now reemed to 22mm and feel fantastic! No wobble to the pin, which is why I hadn't used them yet.
My machinist said it took 20 minutes a piece to do the rod ends with precision and I checked all 4. Man they are slick!!!
Thanks and a shout out to Privitt Machine Shop in South Coffeyville OK!!!
Total cost, under $300!!!! :thumb:
I asked for .004" PTW clearance and he agreed that with what I am doing, it need room for expansion. Good man!
Marty

It sure does seem like that :thumb:
You have the youth but I'll try and stay up!
;)

I got my block back from the 2nd machinist. My boring man would have sent it to this shop anyway. Nice fresh cutters on the machine for a great decking. Parts ready but I am in some of my other projects currently.
Stay tuned....if you have time ROFL.
Thanks!
Marty

I had a engine rebuild class a few years ago. I had 1 student, my son Trevor. :D
That engine has 73000 miles on it and purrs like a kitten. It wasn't a 4g63 but he built one along side me the next time I was doing a 4g motor (actually TWO).
He learned enough to do his own and has an LS motor tore apart currently.
It's just nuts and bolts and measurements then assembly. To me, its fun!

Lets gooooooo! Im ready to race!
We had that tune working pretty good my friend! The numbers I saw and FELT were worthy of a trip to Mexico with you for sure! :thumb:;)

Well with 100* heat, I moved all of the block parts to the cooled garage for checking clearances and possibly assembly.
Block got punched. 020" and the stock crank "looks" good but #1 main needs a massage. I'll check it all out and hope I don't need a crank. Fingers ceossed!
🤞
I went out and grabbed the bearing race tool also so I can knock out the BS bearings and take her for a good cleaning! :)

A small update on the Red 90 Talon new short block (hell maybe longblock).
I got the BS bearings knocked out and need to get the freeze plugs out for a good wash down and cleaning then I'll wipe it all down with ATF to keep it from getting surface rust until I can wash the cylinders out and ready them for the new pistons. The old main bearings look great so maybe the crank is in similar condition, I haven't miked it yet but will soon.
Progress, slowly but still progress with all the other things we have going on. :thumb:

Oh I will for sure. That will be a while the way things are going around here, but for sure an update of the problem will be coming when I open that one up.

Make sure you update us on what caused your issue when you find it!

I'm really interested in this too. I don't know how good the stock oil pan is for holding oil around the pickup when you have a high hp awd car and drive it very rowdy. When I relocated my oil pressure sender, I decided to log it, just to know for sure what's going on there (Looks good but I don't have a stock oil pan and I don't drive all that rowdy). At about the same time I got to wondering if my oil pressure is "too high" (it gets up to 110 psi at high revs) - further confused by some vague Jafro vids from about 10 years ago. But ER says it's what they had in mind, Hiroshi says it's ok, and the Kiggly paper about pressure drop across the oil filter shows oil pressure same as mine!
Then most recently, I got interested in the problem that BRZ and GR86 owners are having with blowing up their engines - turns out that may be due to their oil pressure dropping in hard right-hand corners (on track mostly). This video is really interesting to watch on that subject. The guy did a great job of showing real time oil pressure with in-car cam on the race track:

Well to show I didn't get totally burned out on the platform, I took her new heart to the carwash for a good bath and then a wipe down with ATF to ward of flash rusting. It all looks really good so far. I am thinking of maybe building another race head also so I don't have to tear one motor apart for another.
Anyway, a couple pics. It's in the garage with A/C so I can work on it anytime, no old man excuses, LOL.
Just need time (it's a valuable thing, watch the time fly as the pendulum swings.....) :)

Thanks guys. A fresh FLAT head with springs, valves, HLA, CAMS and gears etc, is about 2k (+/-) in parts (plus a surfacing of said new head).
I wish I had as many spare head parts as I did bottom end parts in inventory, it would save me a few bucks or sell some DSM parts to fund it.

But worth it!

Now if I just blink my eyes, will this stuff just magically jump into place???:hmm: :idontknow: ROFL
I guess its just waiting on some "so and so" to slap it all together, willy nilly......
Believe me, there's still a ton of prep work to be done.
Thanks for hangin around :thumb:
