I believe he was initially referring to the Evo IX turbo, which is not too wonderful of a suggestion. Reverse-rotating means a difficult install, and at the end of the day it's STILL a 16G. Evo X turbos are standard-rotating and easily upgradable to a 20G. :thumb:

The factory Evo X compressor is quite-comparable to our Evo III 16G, but having a smaller inducer definitely makes it less-potent than an off-the-shelf Evo III 16G. Great upgrade for someone who is just outgrowing a 14B but doesn't want to drop $900 on a new Evo III. The downside is it has to be custom-built as there are no DSM-style compressor covers pre-cut for an Evo X compressor.

That was supposed to be aimed at the canadian..We have went over this privately remember..:tease:

Yeah, it takes some work to install and not that cost efficient , but 400whp+ that spools faster than a 14b is very very attractive.

I've driven Evo's two stock VIII's, one modded IX with the factory turbo...none of which spooled anywhere near as quick as a 14B.

The larger twin-scroll turbine housing allows better turbine flow which means lower EGT's and better performance at higher boost levels. An Evo IX turbo with a twin-scroll 6cm turbine housing may outspool a 14B, but with the 10.5 housing in place it's probably going to spool the same as a single-scroll 7cm Big 16G on our cars.

Well the twin scroll should spool damn near a 14b, no? I would see 20 psi on my 14b in the mid 3k rpm and that should be where a ts 16g should do.

Justin if you couldnt tell allready..Mike was the idea behind that whole x comp wheel conversation we had.

And he also tried convincing me to do twin scoll evo setup..Too much hassle if You ask me.

Well whatever you do, I still believe twin scroll is the way to go.

Do i need to install my setup to resolve all the thinking of this? Lol i read up on the fp black and users report .

I would just like to say thank you Robert for designing the most kick ass turbo the market has to offer for the stock appearing setup. At 40psi I made 750whp currently holding the world record for this turbo. I have to say I am 100% completely satisfied with the FP Black. I have contemplated going to a larger turbo but there is really no point. Who says you can't have the best spool and power all at the same time ;) I have no problem saying that everyone that buys this turbo will love it and if you ever need any help, I'm here for the community. Thanks again Robert.

Absolutely amazing turbo. Fast spooling, fast responding, and holds power until redline. I make 40psi by 4k rpm on my 2.3L, and daily drive at 33psi, which is produced by 3800rpm. What more can you ask for? A direct bolt on turbo that produces 68lb/min and spools fast. This turbo is the best of both worlds & has great customer service to go along with it.

^^ this is enough for me to continue with putting the IX turbo on my car.

Granted that is a modified one but i talked to someone a long time ago said they could machine my evo 8 to a fp black. Not that one pretty sure he just meant to fit the wheels that are same spec as the black.

The 9 turbos should if everything on the car is working properly it should spool faster the B16g and perform better than a bastard 20g.

I am all for customization for you intended purpose but holy f**kin asscrackers, Batman! If you want to stuff an R under the hood, you better have the skill and tools to do it yourself. It is going to cost a fortune otherwise. Why not just stuff a Schwitzer S300, or a K05 under there? Really, the numbers you guys are throwing down are big. The amount of work to create those numbers is BIG. Bud, unless you are a very skilled fabricator with all your own welding and machining tools, you are looking at A LOT OF MONEY. Holsets produce big numbers for a hell of a lot less work and money than nearly any other option in this range. That is just the facts. If you want to go this size and you can't pay $4000+ for what you need to run the stuff you guys have been talking about, there is only ONE good option, and we have proven this as a community.

Twin scroll Holset 12 cm is a fast spooling bastige for the size it is. The Holset wheels are specifically designed to spool low. Being that we have 2.0L engines, we need low pressure spool. Holset delivers.

Dang Justin you hit your 10,000th post mark.
9,998 of those were in response to Bud. LOL

Seriously, I wish PM's counted toward accumulated post count...I'd be well-beyond the legendary Defiant. There are days I respond to 20 PM's and not make a single post in the tech forums. :D

815whp is the fp black record.

I'll add to the thread. If this has already been answered than I apologize, but I don't have the time to skim over the 50 pages of questions.

Here's my predicament:

Purchased a MHI big 16g second hand, and it was pretty much destroyed. Gouges in the inside of the compressor inlet almost 1/2cm deep, so much shaft play that I had to pull it apart and check the exducer specs on the compressor wheel, just to make sure it wasn't a small 16g in a big 16g housing. Oil caked onto the inside of the compressor housing. As well as a 6cm turbine housing which I have no interest in.

My question to you is: what would you do? I'm not interested in upgrading the turbo any more than to evo3 spec, but I need a fresh compressor wheel and compressor housing, as well as turbine housing.

Thanks for your time.

Either way it is not the world record for the fp black as he stated. 750whp is close. :rocks:

yeah well 20k from now there might be a new record haha. That user report isnt up to date anyways i don't believe. I was just stating the awesomeness that the 9 turbo can become. But as said if you dont wanna get that high or put that money into it then go Holset.

Wow, a bad situation for sure. The end result would be you'd spend more on parts to make that turbo functional than you would if you just found another good used 16G. If it were just the compressor cover damaged you could snag a rebuild kit and one of the 16G/18G/20G cover and wheel packages from Kinugawa, but then you'd need to spend another $150 or so for a new turbine housing...bringing the total to nearly $400 in parts alone.

That is the same car that did the 750hp on the FP black. How do I know? I drive the damn thing, LOL.

And no the 815hp was a custom 1 off turbo that FP only made for us to test to see if it would be something worth releasing. It is a stock frame turbo but think 3856 inside.

FP has that turbo back in there hands now and we are putting the FP black back on it as it was way more fun.

Justin I build Evo's on a Daily basis and I can tell you this, A Evo IX with stock cams spools pretty damn fast. The bigger o2 housing and the larger turbine housing just make it that much more efficient.

In reality If I were going to build a DSM right now I would run a Evo DBB FP black. It is a badass little turbo. We run them around 36-38 psi in a few of our customers cars and they do great. Of course it is just a glorified HTA3582.

Well... Did you know what you were getting yourself into in the first place??

Time to buy a Holset! ROFL Only kidding.

Like Justin said, it'll cost just as much to fix it, if not more, than to just buy a working 16g. I have been down that road myself already, and it is honestly cheaper to just sell that turdbo as a parts core on ebay or something, and get something else.

Yeah up until recently FP was selling evo 3 CHRA's for 300$, was a great value for a basically new turbo, but they have since jacked up their prices. Listen to this man ^^^ and save the planet. Recycle that turbo on ebay or craigslist.
